But, will we? I think I smell fear on this forum. Fear that, once again, our vast promise to start a year will deflate completely by mid-season. Too many sub-par performances, too many bone head plays. After all of the heartbreaks and let downs this year, and in previous years, I think we are losing faith quickly.

Just for once, we'd like to see this team play the game the way we know it can. If we see one more mistake ridden first half, putting us at a severe disadvantage to win the game, this forum could become a ghost town until April. What a crying shame that would be, given our promising 3-0 start? I think much of the blame will be on Philbin and Co. 's shoulders for not keeping players focused and executing like veterans through adversity.

However, the challenge this year might be too much for most 2nd year head coaches. This team is still very young at some key positions. While it may be on the cusp of being good, I don't think they know what it takes to be good week in and week out. They don't know how to play through adversity. They don't trust in themselves or the team enough to keep on plugging at a high level of efficiency regardless of outcome.

Philbin's problem? How to keep spirits up during adversity. When things aren't going well, you have to believe in yourself and your team if you ever want to win another game. I don't think these players yet believe in themselves as a team. It's up to Philbin to make that happen at some point this year. I know it really hasn't happened yet. However, if we turn things around a bit against the Pats and play solid in the first half, maybe there's still hope for this team this year.

A bigger shame could be the possibility that Ross spins the revolving door for our staff again this year. How can Philbin and Ireland survive if we regress once again? However, IMO replacing them in the off season this year would be a mistake. It is the same mistake we keep making staff after staff. Even if we don't make the playoffs this year, I'm in favor of giving those in charge another year to get things clicking the way we know they should. I feel this way mostly because of the impressive resumes of our coaching staff.

As for Ireland, I think he's done fairly well for Philbin. Not every acquisition has worked out as planned, but we can all see the direction and promise of this team with the majority of the players he's brought in.

I'm also in favor of letting Tannehill start the rest of the way, regardless of performance. The kid needs experience. If he has to curl up into a ball every other pass play, so be it. In the mean time, get him a decent line for next year and watch out!

If Tanney can protect the ball, the o-line can protect the QB and someone can cover Gronk .... we can win this game.

No doubt, a lot hinges on the success of this season. Ross' decision on Ireland, confidence in Philbin, and if Tannehill is the guy, whether that's fair or not. It will be very interesting to see what happens after the season if we don't impress. Ross is a fan as much as an owner. He does not want to lose especially after droppin so much money this offseason.
Everyone is safe if we make the playoffs. A winning record is probably enough to keep jobs, but a losing season will bring some doom to some.

These guys are making mistakes that cost games. But the main issue to me is that we have most of the players to be great, we are just not finishing.

Capable? Sure.

IF Ryan Tannehill plays well.

IF Bryant McKinnie and Jon Martin are much better than Jon Martin and Tyson Clabo.

IF we can stop Rob Gronkowski.

IF our kicker gets back to hitting field goals.

IF the coaches pull their collective head out of their collective ass and put Dion Jordan on the field more.

IF...

Nail on the head.

we are very capable of winning, we already beat a better team then the pats in Indy. need to get back to that great 3rd down percentage remember how good we were on 3rd down

Considering like 6 of their top 7 players are either out or not 100% for this game we should have a decent chance. I'm not betting on it though.

Over the last 15 years we have only won 4 times in Foxboro. About once every 4 years. It's been 5 years so we are due.

I would love to see us go in and Beat them. Can Ellerbe stay with gronk? If he is out we are screwed. I would love to see Tannehill be protected if he can we can pick apart the NE defense. I guess we will see come 1 o'clock tomorrow.
