Through six games, two things are extremely clear if you understand football at all.
1. We need a true #1 WR. Ginn can be good if he is used as a slot WR, but he just doesn't have the size, hands, or power to break tackles to ever be a legitimate #1. He is, however, the perfect athlete for the slot position and can be a dangerous weapon if used correctly. He's struggling because we are asking things of him that he cannot physically do. We need to address this by drafting a guy in the 1st round or making a trade.
2. Gibril Wilson needs to be released and a quality FS has to be brought in. I have NEVER seen such poor tackling at the professional level. This is especially compromising because the safeties are supposed to be the last line of defense. If they can't tackle, then big plays are abound. And that is what has happened to us this year, time after time. I can see now why a desolate, struggling Raiders team THIRSTING for any talent could just outright release him. He was made a fool of multiple times against the Saints, in particular when Shockey danced with him for about 60 yards, and when he was in perfect position to stop Reggie Bush behind the marker and just bounced right off him on a critical 3rd down play at the end of the 4th quarter. I've watched the film of him in every game this season and he has several plays like this every. game. We simply cannot afford to give up plays like this.
Otherwise:
QB: Henne seems like he will be fine.
RB's are set, until Ricky retires at the end of next year
TE: Fasano has shown that he can be very good (see 2008), and does not need to be replaced yet.
O-line is fine.
D-line is fine.
LB's are fine, maybe need to start thinking about getting younger.
CB's are young and will develop to be very good.
SS: Bell can be excellent with a better FS.
So, simply: GET A #1 WR and GET A NEW FREE SAFETY!!!
