How do I know?

Because we did it last year. I had a hunch and looked it up and we sure did. Jalen Parmele was on the active roster for the first three games last year. He was inactive for the gamedays but was a part of the 53 man roster.

This preseason Lex Hilliard has shown more than Parmele did in the 08 preseason. He is more consistent running the football and offers something on special teams. Now Lex could suffer the same fate and later be waived or traded, but I think he is making the team.

We are also a deeper team . . . and its still not set in stone that we will keep Lex. Ideally, we would LOVE to PS him one more season and bring him up next year when Ronnie and Ricky are both out of contract (yes I know Ronnie as a potential 6th year). But that looks impossible now, unless he really looks bad ala Chris Williams these last 2 games.

Last year it was easier to keep Jalen, we were coming off a 1-15 season and he added talent to our roster. If this years team was the same last year . . . Jalen would not have made the cut.

Now truth be told, I think we keep Lex Hillard, the kid is powerful, ideal back for this offense . . . I'm intrigued about trying him at FB and returns as well, tho this kid is a RB, its gives him more justification for sticking on the team. His special teams and versatility will ultimately decide if he is active on game days or not, but he should make the roster.

Skolnick thinks Lex makes the team too. He just said on 790 that Henning has been figuring out ways to use Hilliard.

I didn't need him to tell me we are keeping four or a reminder of last year.

They are doing it folks. We are going to keep all four. Not a doubt in my mind, luxury or not this RB position is going to be unbelievably good.

Also important, RB is the most often injured position in the NFL, or at least it seems like it. And I'm not talking just season ending injuries, they get nicked up at times and have to miss a week or two. Hilliard can be very valuable. I know people will say you can just pick backs up of the street or anywhere, but they don't know the playbook or the schemes. Hilliard should have a big knowledge base and is worth the 53rd spot on our team. I don't see him being active for gamedays unless there is an injury, but he is still an important piece.

long season... they want to keep guys fresh, especially at that position because they want to be a running team first. Ronnie and Ricky will the featured backs, but Cobbs will be in for wildcat, and passing downs and I see Hilliard in their for short yardage along with Polite. Hilliard runs hard and obviously has a burst when he gets a crease.

Oh man I thought this was some kind of announcement not just you spit balling an idea. .aren't there many threads covering this similar topic??

Yeah, but no one has pointed out that we kept 4 last year. Everyone makes it seem like it's such a foreign idea.

I don't think there's any doubt. We've been bouncing around keeping 6 WR's, but Lex has out worked and played London and Armstrong, so there's the answer.

As long as Hilliard's contributions on ST can be somewhat similar to London's, we're definitely keeping him over a 6th receiver.
