If there was one player that we could add to the team that would make us an instant Superbowl Contender, who would it be?

I will say Troy Polamalu.

We dont' give up the big play time and time again with him back there. Last Sunday, the 1st touchdown pass to Gage gets intercepted no doubt if Troy is back there.

I can think of numerous plays against New England, San Diego, Buffalo, Indy, New Orleans that plays dont get made against our defense if he's back there.

What do you guys think, would there be another player you would want that could make us a Superbowl threat?

I find myself frustrated by your premise. First of all this year's Dolphin team is all about the team NOT being about one player. We lost our QB, top CB, top RB, NT, and were still competitive because its NOT about one player (the NBA & NHL are more influenced by one great player because their are only 5 or 6 per side on the court or ice at a time) Second Troy Palamalu was injured on and off all year - mostly he was off the field this season.

People get so hung up on this player or that. Players emerge in a system. Dan Marino was amazing and was great - I think the greatest ever - but failed to win a Super Bowl because Shula had so many poor drafts and could not build Dan a defense or running game. Here is proof positive that the NFL - more than most any other professional leagues - is/was not about one player.

Sometimes a great QB can be the catalyst to help get a good team to be great - see Peyton Manning, Phillip Rivers, Drew Brees. Even in these situations they are surrounded by players and playmakers that make a HUGE difference.

The Dolphins need linebackers, Safeties, wide receivers, a change up running back and some of our current players to grow-up, mature and get a whole lot better (Chad Henne , Vontae Davis, Cameron Wake, Brian Hartline, Merling, Sean Smith - all form a nucleus that need to improve, and mature) - within this system. Then maybe we can return to a Super Bowl and actually win one.

there was thread kind of like this in the VIP forum not too long ago. definitely an interesting idea. a few said manning, a few said reed (who i would take over polamalu 10 times out of 10) - but i said calvin johnson. he's a young athletic freak that would be here for at least a decade - our receiver problem is solved for quite some time - he would immensely help henne's success and development - and could help us win at least one SB instead of just a short term fix. that's my pick.

not trying to argue with you raving....but I disagree with you.

our team is very close and I feel like we are only one player away

We have a legitimate coverage free safety and our defense doesn't give up the big plays over and over again.

There is nothing wrong with our offense...we score quite a few points but our defense can't stop the other team from scoring. We hold our opponents to 7 fewer points a game, our record is much more exciting.

Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu...I'm happy either way

like i said - short term fix. polamalu is 28 years old. he will only be dominant for a few more years. would polamalu help us huge THIS year? absolutely. i'm thinking more long term here.

if it was for this year - and this year only - no problem whatsoever with polamalu. but if it was just this year i think i'd go manning. and i'd still go reed over polamalu.

To the third line: what team have you been watching? Cause its not Miami. Our free safety play this year has been horrendous. Even if Gibril manages to be in position, he wiffs on the tackle. Same goes for Vontae, though he'll get better. Gibril is getting way too much $$$ for his level of play.

And our offense, yes we can score some points. Yes, there are times when we are flawless. But if Ricky can't stop coughing it up and Henne keeps making blatantly ill advised throws, we will continue to be a .500 team.

he was talking about if we had polamalu.

i thought that at first too.

yes, I meant our defense doesn't give up the big plays if we have a free safety of the caliber of Polamalu (or Reed)

And I wasn't disagreeing with you BobDole, it was Raving who I disagreed with

it's all gravy. i didn't take it one way or the other.

I don't disagree with you. Having Gibril Wilson in the lineup has hurt us, and I can honestly say he has cost us some games with his poor coverage and poor tackling.
