I wish we could have gotten him, but it looks as though he won't be that good for this year.

LAVAR "WON'T BE 100 PERCENT" THIS YEAR
Amid reports that Giants linebacker LaVar Arrington's knee is still giving him trouble, there's a growing belief in league circles that Arrington "won't be 100 percent" in 2006.
And the words "degenerative knee condition" are now being mentioned in connection with Arrington, suggesting that he might never be much better than he is right now.
Arrington's knee, we've heard, raised flags in other cities in the offseason when he was looking for a new team. Eventually, he signed a contract that, while impressive on paper, requires him to be able to perform well in order to unlock the truly big money.
Subtracting the $4 million or so in earned but unpaid bonus money he waived with the Redskins in order to hit the free agent market early, Arrington doesn't stand to cash in with the Giants if he can't play at a high level.
For the Giants, the contract structure limited their risk, but they still took a chance on Arrington and, by all appearances, they lost.
Mods feel free to move this to General NFL if necessary.

I agree. Hopefully others will give Saban & co. credit on their due diligence as it relates to Arrington and Brees if they are going to hold them accountable for players like M. Wright.

Wow. This ordeal kinda reminds me of what happened with Brees. We showed both players a great amount of attention, but backed out after we discovered an injury problem. I'm glad Saban is making such wise decisions, and this makes me feel a little bit better about not getting LaVar.

If this is true, then despite the glaring need at that position, Nick and Randy showed great restraint in throwing a lot money at him. It seems as if Dr. Kannell and staff are working overtime on players to ensure they are as healthy as possible and any little thing out of ordinary they don't feel comfortable with, they are reporting to Nick and Randy who are in turn making the proper decisions. Just goes to show how intune everyone in this organization needs to be, from coaches to scouts to Dr.'s.

I don't think we backed off LaVar, I think LaVar backed off us. Given the choice, I would be willing to bet Saban would tell you right now he'd rather have had LaVar accept our offer...

Agree

I was for Lavar coming in, but obviously Nick and Co. know what they are doing. Same can be said about Bennett too. He's been at KC for a couple of days now and already hurt. We all get so frustrated at the lack of jumping on possible big names available out there, but Nick obviously does him homework first before investing a dime. Obviously not 100% fool-proof (thanks Manny), but right more than wrong and 100 times better than Wanny at making such calls.

I agree! My point was I beleive it's possible that an injury report from Dr. Kannell is probably one of the prime reasons our offer to LaVar wasn't as high as say Jacksonville's or the Giants. They weren't willing to move off of their offer, despite it being reported over and over again that our offer was probably the lowest of all the teams interested. We made our offer, take it or leave it and LaVar went elsewhere.

Glad to hear it only because i hate the Giants and their fans. Not much of a surprise due to me in the NY Area.

Should be moved to NFL general.

But glad we didn't get him, cost too much. Thanks for the heads up.

i knew that was gonna happen sooner or latter with LA, i wonder how the giants fan feel about it lol, since they thought they were going 2 the bowl when they signed Lavar..
