...Understands what it takes in this league to win. And that's a good offensive line. I'm tired of all these prima donnas who think they can throw a garbage line together and make it work because they have a good RB or a good QB. It never works that way. Look at all the teams having success in the NFL. Not one of them has a mediocre O line. You can win with mediocre QB, mediocre WRs, mediocre RB but if you have a mediocre line you're not going anywhere.

It's too bad Dick Vermeil isn't interested in coaching again. He's the one guy who understood this the best.

Your right a good line is a major part of a successful O, but O-line men are hot commodities, well GOOD ones are, so it takes time. But we def. need to improve it greatly.

Smartest post I've EVER seen on FinHeaven, be ready to be lambasted by the kids here who are so enamored with the high profile positions like RB, QB, WR, that they can't accept the truth that the ugly low profile OL wins or loses games. There's a reason old pro's like HOF'er Madden always say the game is won or lost in the trenches, because its true.

after watching the saints and eagles game , i will agree with you both and did you guys see how the the saints oline helped push the eagles dline back and how bush got that td ? that is how a real oline should be.

maybe we should draft a wr in rd and then bring in 2 olinemen in f/a and then draft dline and olb .:cooldude:

Most people don't realize that it's the offensive line that makes a running back great. Not the other way around unless you are Barry Sanders.

We need a coach who,,,

Cares first and foremost about our franchise, our community and our fans and wants to bring in players that want the same,,we need coaches and players that will bleed aqua and orange and who want toi start a NEW TRADITION,,maybe mike shula would have these characteristics and be able to create something special, let capers and garrett coach the offense and defense and let shuls pick the right type of player, i know i might be reaching here but i'am trying to find the right angle and what this team needs emotionally from its head coach.

Based on the diverse opinions of the participants on the Finheaven message board, the only thing the Dolphins can do at this time is enter the 2007 Season with no coach at all. Since there is not a consensus in support of any of the candidates, just let the coordinators call the plays and place a life-like manequin of young Don Shula, on the sidelines, yelling at the officials for motivation. Years ago NBC telecast a game with no broadcasters. Now the Dolphins can go through the season without a coach. At least that way, at the end of the season the team's coach won't resign to go to the college ranks or he won't get fired. Go Dolphins!

This post is right on!!!! Ive been saying it for years, you look at all the teams that consistantly make it year after year. They all have at least one thing in common, a really good O-line....

But like some of the other posts Ive seen lately, we do need a HC who is dedicated to the dolphins, first and foremost...And then we need a OC with a really good system, thats what we need, A GOOD SYSTEM OC!!!!!!!

Great players vs. great systems, usually u cant have both. We have niether on the offensive side. What we do have is more than adequate players without a good system.

To quote Bill Walsh "Joe Montana was a product of a system, Dan Marino was a system."

Chances are, unfortunately, we wont ever have another Dan. But, what we can have, that is within our grasp, is a good system. Develope the players around a good system. IMO We have some of the pieces already in place, Ronnie, some young OL, maybe CPep if he can get healthy again.

The O line is the most important part on offense, if not the team. I couldnt agree with you more.

I see what you mean, there are a lot of mediocre quarterbacks still alive in the playoffs.........Peyton Manning........Tom Brady.......Drew Brees......................uh....................maybe not.

What ever happened to Russ Grimm? From my understanding wasnt he a line coach as well as a former lineman? He would definitly understand the importance of a good line and what a good linemen is.

Peyton Manning is the only great QB you mentioned. The others are products of a great offensive system. They are good not great. And what's the most important ingredient of a great offensive system? The offensive line.

I agree 100% with the O-line opinion. This is one big area where we are still feeling the effects of the Wanny era. It seemed to me that Wannstedt never put due emphasis on building/maintaining a dominant O-line. Yeah I know he courted Olin Kruetz and a couple other quality FAs but my opinion is that he never made much more than a token effort in that area. Think back to that one year when he apparently all of a sudden opened his eyes and noticed how aged our O-line was and cut or let walk 4/5's of the starters from the previous year. Again, we're still hurting because of that blunder. Like you, I really hope that whoever becomes our next HC will want an O-line that dominates. I also hope that we see Houck retained.
