I was on the Sturgis bandwagon and im not usually like this but ever since he missed his first of his career he has spiraled out of control. 1 of 6 are you serious. I don't care if he was a 5th we need a vet

Don't worry, I'm sure they will wait until he costs us 4 more games to bring in a new kicker.

Put me in....Im 7 beers deep and can still kick it straighter than him

He had a good start but never was NFL caliber. Not sure why they were so sold on him. Carpenter is laughing right now making this kid and the Fins sick. Should have kept Carp. They have to cut Sturgis at this point and sign a vet. Pretty obvious. The kid is lost.

I said it when we drafted him...it was a mistake. Carp wasn't perfect but he made most of the short to intermediate kicks. Sturgis can't get out of his own head and it shows. One bad kick and he is done. Wind starts blowing and he over thinks the kick. He just wasn't worth the draft pick at that point, especially with all of our other needs. Odds are he goes undrafted and you pick him up then or you grab a kicker after the draft for competition. Sturgis won the competition off of one kick....another mistake.

Random thought:

Carp has been solid this year.

Special teams coach the problem?

I'm serious, does anyone here actually know anything about the kicking game?

Why do ALL of our kickers suck now? Is it the special teams coaching?

Most ridiculous statement I've ever seen on here, which is saying something. You can't tell me that a guy who was booming 55 yarders with regularity wasn't NFL caliber, nearly every kicker in the league wouldn't even have distance on most of those. He's going through a confidence crisis but it happens to most kickers at some point. Some recover and some don't, but a guy with the biggest leg besides Sebass in the league will at lease get a chance.

The kid has a ridiculously strong leg. I was definitely one of the guys who wanted to keep Carpenter. I could see the value of having an experienced kicker on your team. Yes, he went through a bad stretch, he would cost more $$, but I thought he was worth it.
Now, seeing Strugis, I think we made the right move. He has the better leg, he is salary cap friendly, and has the potential to stick around for years. He will have some growing pains, ALL kickers do. You can't name one guy who never missed a FG. Look at Mike Vanderjagt, one of the best all time at FG accuracy. He made 86%, which means he misses roughly 14 out of every 100. I don't understand some people who expect perfection out of these players.

For the same reason people eat crappy burgers from the drive-through at McDonalds rather than go somewhere and get a good burger... we live in an instant gratification society.
