I'd like to see us make a two prong attack on the QB position. First, we need to go after the best FA out there to supplant Gus with. We have no idea how the draft will pan out so we have to treat FA as if it's our only shot at fixing the QB position. Then in the draft still go for the best QB we can get. That way we're safe both ways. We have the best FA available out there at QB and we have the best QB in the draft that we could realistically lay our hands on that's learning in the wings. I want to see Saban "GO FOR IT" on the QB position. Frerotte is the safe mediocre way out. He's not going to get better he'll just hopefully not get worse.

If we get Brooks, or Schaub, or Couch, or whoever they are coming in to play the QB position. They are not coming in to teach the drafted QB the position. That's what the QB coach, and the other bazillion position coaches we have are for. That FA will be coming in to provide us with the best skills available to us for the time being.

I'm sick to death of us playing it safe at that position. We need to go for it in both FA and the Draft. Worse case scenario is we have a better starter and a great rookie waiting in the wings.

I've agreed with this and thought this should be our main offseason focus for 4 years now.

Hopefully this is the year!

I say sign UFA McCown or make a cheap trade for Ramsey & then draft a QB as well, possibly Cutler or Croyle...

Agree 100% with the lead post.

If I'm GM for a day I get Ramsey on the cheap and draft Cutler in the 1st, or Whitehurst/Croyle in the 3rd.

Other Veteran QBS I consider: McNair, McCown, Collins, Gerrard

I agree with the need of QBs, but don't like any of the examples.

I would love Cutler, but I just dont see us getting him. Too expensive to move up, and he wont last past #10. Of the FA's being discussed I would like to see Schaub. I think he is a potential starter and a damn good one. He's the best backup in the NFL IMO.

How about Mcnair and JAcobs:wink:

Of the realistic shots at QB we have in the draft, Jacobs is my fav. One plus I see about having McNair is his ability to mentor Jacobs. However, I feel McCown will only get better, and McNair has past his prime. McNair and Jacobs would be sweet!

I like what little has been seen of him. We'll see if we can get our grubby little hands on him.
