We needed a guard or center more than a LT

what?

Are you crazy? Our biggest need last year was EASILY left tackle. It was a rotating circus over there between McIntosh, Carey and such. No rookie besides Ferguson is going to step in and be solid right away. I like Jon Scott and McNeil too, but there is always a learning curve at OT. Just look at Robert Gallery, who was MUCH better than those guys.

No Jon Scott or Marcus McNeil now.

Actually I think we could be set at G and C for the year.
If we bring in Tom Ashworth to play RT that frees up Vernon Carey to move inside to Guard. Many feel that Carey is much more suited to play Guard anyway.

You then have Jeno James and Vernon Carey starting at G.

We then have a training camp fight between Rex Hadnot, Alonzo Ephraim and Wade Smith for Center.

Starting lineup of

Shelton, Ashworth at T
James and Vernon at G
Prob. Hadnot at C

We could be just fine with that although I question how much LJ Shelton is really going to solidify the LT position.

Considering we didn't have a LT on the roster, it's tough to argue that we didn't need one.

i swear... some people around here would l3itch if they were hung with a new rope

But I think if we trade down to the late 1st round in the draft, Nick Mangold would certainly be an option at the center position.

I'd love to have a C and a G also. But I still think we should draft a Winston Justice, John Scott, Eric Winston, Daryn Colledge.

Gimme jon scott or mcniel 2 potential franchise LTs than an average and old LT

Exactly right! Now you can make an HONEST assesment of CAREY and frankly, he's not an NFL tackle. What you do is you bring in the guy from NEW ENGLAND (ASHWORTH?) to play RT and you slide CAREY to play RG. I would LOVE to find an upgrade over Seth McKinney (everyone on here knows how much I LOATHE the man) but this year we can't afford to go shopping for what isn't there. We re-sign him and concentrate the rest of free agency and the draft on a 1) Starting caliber CB 2) Starting Caliber Safety 3) Starting Caliber SPEED WR 4) Starting Caliber OL 5) Starting Caliber DE (young) 6) Rookie QB.

If we hit on all six of those points by the end of April, Saban will have addressed all of this team's areas of need and we will be READY to make a run at the Patriots for the AFC East. It should be fun!

LT position is the most difficult OL position to fill in the league. The Fins acted when they could by acquiring a high quality LT. Great job Saban!

guard

Anyways, i would feel more comfortable with the Phins drafting a top guard like Max Jean-Gilles or Davin Joseph and having them start right away then i would with Scott or McNeil. Plus, you could trade down a bit and still get those guys.

Shelton may very well be more talented than both. He's not a guy whose just some slob we picked up, he can be an amazing LT. And we've got the best o-line coach in the league to make it happen. And don't talk about o lineman getting old. On avg o lineman play well into their thirties, almost to their forties.

have you guys forgot houck is developing a very promising young player in anthony alabi? long range, smart, very athletic, he was doing well last year in camp and such, if either one of the tackles are slacking, look for him to start.

Thats a wildcard. Hardly something you can count on.
He may very well end up good but at this point he is still a project and none of us have any idea how long a time line this guy will need to produce.

Exactly...we can always find a Center or Guards.....LT's are hard to find.
