I'm as saddened as the next guy about the start to this season, but frankly people need to keep in mind that we're a transformed 1-15 team in year 2 of our rebuilding. This is exactly where we were last year only the situation was exponentially gloomier since it was only the first year of the coaching staff. Turns out we go in do the most unimaginable thing and beat the pats in their house. We were underdogs by 14 points in that game and we destroyed that spread.

And frankly, alot of people around here hate to acknowledge exactly how far in the gutter we were after the wanny, saban, cameron tenures. For us to be where we are is still a miracle i believe.

The F.O. has been super shy in F.A. with our only major FA aquisitions of this year being Grove and Wilson, when we could have addressed at the very least maybe one skill position such as NT or WR. God knows we have the cap space. So with the understanding that the F.O. doesnt want to make any big commitments to franchise-calibur players outside of the draft, it confirms to me that the coaching staff knows that we're not serious contenders going into this season, which of course should be expected of a rebuilding project that is only in its 2nd year.

Now if only the fanbase understood this and wouldnt flip out and call for the head of our QB who has given us so much. This noodle arm crap needs to go. He's the best option for us while Henne grooms and the team develops. My 2 cents.

Good post. We build the team throught the draft. High priced FA's are for teams looking for that final piece.

losing is never okay. That's not the mentality of a winning franchise. Of course we were all amazed with the way last season went down. But in the playoffs we saw where we really were at. I want to see continued improvement and if we're rebuilding I want to see our QB of the future.

JAke Grove and Gibril Wilson are high priced free agents

They are high priced? About as high priced as Justin Smiley, sir.

I'm talkin house-hold name status. A Houshmanzadeh, Boldin, Crabtree, Owens, Moss, Johnson (Andre) type of player.

I'm not saying we should go nuts, but we have plenty of room and have a legitimate necessity for a big name WR entering his prime atleast for revenues sake this past offseason would have been nice.
If it wasnt for Parcell's being on this franchise's payroll, i'd be really worried that Ireland is another spielman.
I have my fingers crossed for Crabtree or Boldin.

Because lets be frank. I like Ginn and i dont mind having him on the team. I dont however, like him as much as i like Devone Bess, who is one thing that Ginn is not - tough.

Secondly Ginn is not "quarterback friendly," and that is, along with the toughness discussed above, is a critical trait in what we hoped for when we drafted him - a true number one receiver and playmaker. Yes he still makes big plays every now and then but he's not consistant enough and his fan boys blame the most accurate QB in NFL history for the WR's shortcommings.

Sooo...You're saying we're not going to the Superbowl then? I guess you will be considered badly by many...The same that said how wrong ESPN was.

Where do we stand on cap space? Who's availiable that meets your description? How do we get them? What's Crabtree done besides turning down a slotted deal that's impressed you at a pro level?

I'd be all for Boldin.

Well, currently i cant think of anyone that is immediatley accessible barring any unusual circumstance. But mainly the opportunities we passed up on since the end of last season. WR's were going left and right, and we were in best financial position to make a move and we didint.

Which ones specificly?

IMO Owens, Coles, or Marshall would have been a hardcore upgrade over Hartline.

Really?

So far;

Coles; 3 Rec for 20 yards.
Marshal 7 Receptions for 60 yards.
Owens 5 for 98 yards

Hartline 4 for 36.

So far, Hartline has outproduced one of your choices. He's gaining on another malcontent diva, and, fairly far off from another malcontent diva.

Interestingly.....Ginn's outclassed every FA on your list at a fraction of the price.

Who ordered the CODE RED!?!

Nice one Goon Boss, that's damn near Joe Friday perfect (just the facts ma'am).

We may be ahead of schedule in terms of rebuilding, and the drafts are looking fairly solid, but at a certain point signing quality free agents at the right price to fill certain holes DOES become important. Obviously, you can't draft your entire squad.

This regime is beginning to worry me a little bit with respect to FA signings. They're paying a bit much for lesser talent, and missing completely here and there (Wilford, Green). I really didn't expect free agent misses with this regime...draft misses, sure (unavoidable), but free agent misses, no.
