No disrespect to anyone, but :

Cameron Wake
Age : 34...... (turns 35 in January)
Still an elite pass rusher.

We need to get something in return for him before his body breaks down and he's washed up and retires. He still played well this year and proved he still has gas in the tank, and could help any team in contention. If we let him play out his career, then we will lose a valuable asset due to age. This is not a smart move. We can still get something for him to help the future of the Dolphins. And Cam Wake would get to play for a legitimate championship contender.

Maybe the Dolphins could get extra picks out of it.

Maybe a 3rd and 4th for Wake.
Or maybe their mediocre starter DE + a 2nd round pick for Wake.

In my opinion, the Dolphins should NEVER let a valuable asset just walk away in free agency or retire. We need to get something out of Wake while we still can.

Who's to say he doesn't have another 4 years in the tank? The guy takes care of his body better than almost everyone, and he doesn't have the mileage on it most 34 year olds have at the position.

We are getting a playoff run out of him.

In my eyes, it's championship or bust.

And we ain't winning any championships this year.

We should have traded him for draft picks to continue building this team.

Nah... he will break down before that.

We got our use out of him. It's time to move on and get valuable assets for him in return before he breaks down in a Dolphins jersey and becomes worthless.

This is how all successful teams do it.

I see where you are coming from but Cam Wake is the franchise more than any other player because he went through hell and back in many different ways.

He's the hero that this city needs

If your goal was to get attention by just starting a controversial assinine thread you're going to get what you asked for.

We traded Jason Taylor, and JT was more of a hero than Wake. It's just a business....... I still love JT.

We can't get sentimental. Cameron Wake is a VERY valuable asset and he's about to hit an age where football bodies start to break down. He won't be the same player in 1-2 years.

We can still get some great draft picks out of him...... we need to take as many shots in the draft as we can...... get younger...... and might find a future star.

First, this isn't Madden. How many trades do you see for aging players in football?

Second, if we do get a playoff run it will have a lot to do with team chemistry. We are not the most talented team and our recent success is not due to a sudden influx of talent but maximization of what we have. What do you think would happen to that if we traded Wake now?

Third, you overlook the potential of either improving or destroying how the organization looks to future free agents.

Last, it would be wrong to do that based on his standing and contributions to the organization.

At 34, he's still top 3 in performance-per-snap in the entire NFL. That's right around where he's been for years. Don't underestimate the man...he'll be around a while more. AFTER blowing an achilles!

I'll keep him until the end. He's a leader and still can play at a high level.

Do you pay attention to how successful franchises stay relevant?

Bill Bellichick trades players right before they break down. He trades them when they are getting up there in age, and are still valuable, but only have so many seasons left in them.

And it's not just the Patriots

Teams in other sports do the same thing. How do you think the Los Angeles Lakers stayed relevant for so long? When Shaq was available in Free agency, they signed him. Then when he turned around 33 or 34 years of age, they traded him for a bunch of good young players.

You're not supposed to wait until your valuable assets are no longer valuable anymore.
