we still have to many holes for this team to make the playoffs. I have to agree with everyone here that this team is much better than last year. But with the problems we have at cornerback and the offensive line, I think that is what will hold us back. Our offensive line is good in certain areas. The pass protection has been the best I have seen it in a while. The problem is the run blocking. There are still not enough holes for our runningbacks to run through. Now I probably will get introuble for saying that, especially after ronnie running for over 100 yards, but our runningbacks cannot consistently put up 3 or 4 yards per play. Many times our runningbacks are fighting to get a measly one yard. I cant complain though with how they did against Carolina. Im just worried that we are not getting enough holes for our runningbacks.

Another big problem I see is our cornerback position. We do not have that great cornerback anymore. He is with the Kansas City Chiefs. What we do have is a decent but aging cornerback in Sam Madison and veteran who has done nothing to earn his contract, Reggie Howard. He has been absolutely terrible and I would be much happier finding an old free agent in Buckley or Bobby Taylor. Losing Will Poole really hurt us. He played great his first season. Maybe we can get him back this season to help our cornerback problems.

Last thing I wanted to say is that I am very happy on what Saban has done. I would have never expected before this season that we would be 2-1 at this point. I wouldnt be writing this article if I didnt believe we had a chance. If we find a solution to the cornerback problems our team will be much better. Howard has been torched in every game this year. Our defense would be much improved without him. Even with the cornerback problems we are still winning. Wanny couldnt do it when he had the best tandem in the league at cornerback. There is not much we can do with the run blocking of the offensive line. We have to just let them gel. As many of you say.

Well we have beat Denver and Carolina so far so if having holes means we win, let's get some more holes!! I love holes!!

I think our talented front seven will make up for the secondary's weaknesses in most cases but may not be enough every week. I think the O-line will be fine and will improve as the season progresses. In fact I think the whole team will improve as the season progresses. This team is so much more enjoyable to watch than last year's product. I didn't and still don't expect them to win Super Bowl 40 but at least the team is very respectable. I'm extremely pleased with this team considering last year. I want to beat our divison rivals though.

Maybe some of our younger players will fill those "holes" and with the proper guidance and coaching we could contend for the playoffs. I am not overly optimistic but I love what the team is doing right now.

Wrong! We do not have TOO many holes to make the playoffs. We have TOO many holes to succeed in the playoffs. But Miami making the playoffs is not a stretch at all.

well maybe it is possible making the playoffs with what has happened to the afc east. I still believe that the patriots are the favorite because they are able to plug in any guy and make him look good. They have won 3 superbowls by doing this.

Let's lay off the O-line for once. They are young and improving every week. I guarantee you they will NOT be "holding us back". They have held their own against a blitz happy front 7 in Denver (they gave KC's O-line fits last night) and nearly dominated a very good D-line of the Panthers. What is your problem with them? Or are you still preoccupied with last season?

We are never as bad as we think after a loss and never as good after a win. I agree we do need help at corner. A lot of that has to do with getting use to a VERY complicated defense. Maybe Travis Daniels can learn to be better as the year goes on. I said at the start of the year that 8-8 would be a great season, I stick to that. I never thought we could be 2-1 right now. I love the way the players believe in Saban and really feel in a few years we could be a SB contender. I wish we could find a QB that we could trade for this year and start the learning process rather than draft someone that may or may not turn into a NFL player in a couple years.

the problem with the secondary is finding a 2nd and 3rd CB.

Schulters has made play after play for us all year, and Tebucky has been very solid. Madison has done his thing, but Howard has struggled mightely outside the Denver game.

Daniels knows Saban's D, and is a highly touted rookie, but he should be our nickleback. If Will Poole was healthy we'd be set (people forget that in his 2nd game, he shut Chad Johnson down, and CJ didn't have a huge catch until Poole came out and we put Jimmy Wyrick on Johnson.) Kiwaukee Thomas has been a good nickleback throughout his career so he should improve our nickle D.

Even with Thomas coming in, we still should take a look at Bobby Taylor(proven vet, big corner), Terrel Buckley(fan favorite), or Willie Middlebrooks (tall young corner that never got a shot in Denver)

The "holes" are real and I agree may affect our ability to make the playoffs. But.....

This offensive line will continue to improve as the line becomes more cohesive. Only injuries will derail their progress. The return of Ricky will only make the running game more potent. Ronnie will get better as the year goes along, but he will probably avoid the year end fizzle for rookies as he will split time with Ricky. Ricky's presence will allow Ronnie to develop without addtional outside pressures.

The secondary will be the weak link unless someone is picked up. Even if Poole returns he will not be game ready this year. The key will be to continue to make key plays and turnovers. An opporuntunistic defense will propel us into the playoffs; or a special teams dominance which gives consistently great field position and turnovers.

This team has a great pulse with Saban. My regret is we will miss out on Matt Leinart. Maybe we could snatch up Phillip Rivers.

i dont remember clearly but i thought that poole and madison were covering CJ on several different plays

wasn´t madison on CJ all day in that game ?

no because I remember the ESPN crew saying that Madison would be on Warrick all day because Wanny felt that he would hurt us more than Johnson. Poole held his own all game, but got hurt making a tackle, so he came out. Instead of putting our best corner on the Bengal's Pro Bowler (Surtain was hurt as was Howard) we put Jimmy Wyrick on him, and on 3rd and long the Bengals get into FG range

you must be right then. Wanny put Jimmy Wyrick on Chad Johnson!!! What an idiot. Is Jimmy Wyrick even still playing football!?!?!
