Did that get your attention?? If we beat Baltimore and the Steelers beat the bengals we will drop out of 6th seed. Right now the ravens are the 2nd place team in the North, or highest seeded WC team in the North. If we beat them pitt moves up to highest seeded WC north team. Right now the ravens are acting as a buffer between us and pitt. Pitt beats us in a 3 way tiebreaker rule #5. Since only the highest seeded team from each division moves on in a "3 or more way tie for WC" tiebreaker the ravens have kept pitt from being ahead of us, but if we beat the ravens it will put us in a tie with pitt and they win, here is why.

[h=2]Three or More Clubs[/h](Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated, tie breaker reverts to step 1 of applicable two-club format.)

  1. Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants.
  2. Head-to-head sweep. (Applicable only if one club has defeated each of the others or if one club has lost to each of the others.)
  3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
  4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
  5. Strength of victory.

Rules 1,& 2 don't apply and we are tied in rule #3. Rule #4 will come into effect later on but not yet because we have yet to play but 3 common teams (jets, jags and ravens). So #5 is strength of victory where they are leading by two games. Our wins vs oak, jets, did not help. So be prepared folks, if we win and pitt wins don't freak out when you see we dropped out of the 6th seed. We will get it back by winning. We will win rule #4 if we beat the ravens and jets the 2nd time. We will be 4-1 in common games and they will be at best 3-2.

Does this really matter at this point. I know it 'feels' good to be sitting in a WC position .... but it will only matter in week 17.

Assuming we make it to 10-6, it will work out .... trust the force!

a little early to get that deep into tie breakers, so much football to go, all we know is we are right where we need to be to make a run. If we go 3-1 I like our chances.

This is a message board...where we discuss Dolphins football. Is it ok by you that we continue to do so?

Since when is the NFL season only 14 weeks long?

### Pittsburgh (7-5): The Dolphins and Steelers don’t play and have the same conference record (6-3). But Miami would have the edge, at the moment, in the next tiebreaker (common opponents) and would keep that edge if it beats Baltimore and the Jets, regardless of whether Pittsburgh beats Kansas City. The Steelers’ remaining schedule: at Cincinnati, at Atlanta, Kansas City and Cincinnati.

We need to root for the division leaders from here on out. Minus the pats of course. Cincy beating Pitt would be huge for us. That and a win for us against baltimore, a pats loss to sd, bills lose to broncs, colts beat browns, and a chiefs loss to Arizona would be this weeks "perfect week". Honestly I like the odds on most of those games for us.

You are right but I love playing with tiebreaker rules. I used to run a Karting league and had to come up with all the tiebreakers and see how well they came out. I have always loved playing with these types of stats. I just enjoy them, although it is really easy to leave things out. I just find it interesting when odd deals like this turn out.

Still not sure I would rather have a chargers loss. I really don't think we are a team that can go into Boston and win so a chargers loss might be better for us than a NE loss. Add to that we would be going to Boston with the Pats on a 2 game losing streak trying to make it 3 in a row and that seems like a very unlikely place to get a win. If I knew we had to have one more loss on the season I would want it to be the vikings first and the pats 2nd.

I think 4 teams are going to finish at 10-6: Mia, Bal, Pitt, & SD.

A couple of teams are going to be disappointed at going 10-6 and missing the playoffs.

That's why we root for the steelers to lose the rest of their games. ;) yeah I know wishful thinking
