I think Seau brings a lot of intensity to the strongside backer position, but I also thik he does some undisciplined things. Seau has always been known as a bit of a freelancer. He will make some plays in the backfield, but he will also get targeted by some offenses because they know he has a tendency to play out of position.

Spragan may not be as physically gifted as Seau, but he has the size, and he knows how to play the 3-4 very well. In the preseason games, Spragan was rarely out of position. I think he got beat out by Crowder because Crowder is physically the best linebacker we have, and he unexpectedly picked up the defense quicker than the coaching staff anticipated.

I agree Spragan will be will do fine in the 3-4, but we need Seau out there as much as possible

From what I've seen, I agree 100%. The Jet game, a game in which he supposedly played so great, I saw him lose containment at least 3 times.

I think Junior brings intensity and leadership, but his actual on the field contribution won't be missed much. I think we are more hurt by losing an able body as far as depth is concerned.

My thoughts as well.... I've seen other guys on defense out of position as well, but I don't see Seau playing bad, and he still makes occasional big plays. The depth, in my opinion drops of considerably after him (at his position).

Yep. I forgot that we have a bye week so everyone can heal up. However, it's obvious that Seau's body is breaking down. He needs to be smart about pushing himself. I guess he figures this to be his last shot so he's leaving it all out on the field.

Seau might miss a couple plays, but he also makes big plays, and always has a good tackle number, even with Zach hogging them all.
