what a pre-season, at last we got front office thats doesnt stand still and think 'well we are ok maybe we hit it good next year'....no no no no.............no we got the trifecta, who highlight the week areas and attack to improve.

our weakest areas last year :-

1)Lack of passrush opp Porter
2)Weak coverage in secondary and lack of youth and athletisism
3)Interior of O Line not physical enough
4)Lack of physical WR (I say physical, as opposed to big due to Wilford- best ernest i seen on tv was the one trying to save xmas)

1) we sign Wake, Porter, cut Holliday for Merling and with Roth shedding weight also, opens up all sorts of Blitz packages, espesially when u consider we got 2 safetys wo can also blitz. I can just see Merling lining up over Centre, with Roth, Wake, Taylor, Porter, Wilson and Bell all hovering, moving about not knowing who going to blitz. I think we can do this as 3out of the 4 CB who would be on the field, Davis, J Allen, Smith are all physical enough to cover tackle as opposed to Will Allen.

2) as said previously our secondary is vastly improved, not soley when u look at our base defence, but when you consider the depth we now have. Wilson is a big improvement over Hill. Though Goodman played well down stretch, it looked better as he was so bad at start. With Davis, Smith and chris Clemons coming in, plus what i believe, vast improvement in J.Allen(2nd consecutive season as CB, 2nd consecutive season same defence and improvement shown at backend of season, took Moss out if game till Goodman let him slip) we can expect secondary to comepete, cover and hurt offences next year with our physical play.

3)Satele, whom i liked, did not fit, not the BP mold but the O line guru Sparano mold. He wants physical nasty O Line men so got rid of Satale and brought in Grove. Grove does not have the feet or speed of Satale, but is nasty and physical. With D Thomas and lets not forget S Murphy in 2nd year, Smiley, Ndukwe, Alleman and poss Berger all fighting for the 2 gaurd spots and 2nd yr with Sparano....again we can expect vast improvement.

4)Though not the best WR ever taken in draft, Turner and Hartline are what we havnt got. Physical WR's. I love Bess and Camarillo collecting the quick underneath stuff and Ginn hopefully carrying on his improvement, but lets face it we needed more physical route runners to pair with the 3 small WR.

Maybe with tougher schedule, we do not match the 11-5 of last season, but we will i beleive be beeter football team, who will be sniffing around the 10-11 win mark. When you consider we now have more depth and youth running through roster its all good for future SB win:up:

We still have huge holes at receiver, WR is by far our biggest need right now. Outside of that I like what we did in the off season.

You do realize we had what, 4-5 WRs in 2008 now we have about 10....

They won't all make the team, but we will surely get at least two studs or potential studs from the bunch.

i dont think putting Merling over centre is too far fetched.

1) out of all defensive line he is our best passrusher.
2) Ngata n Seymour do same for Ravens and Pats, I even seen Jaret Johnson lining up over centre for Ravens in long yardage situations. I even seen Ngata and Johnson lining up nr centre and JJ blitzed and Ngata dropped into coverage .....so why not???

merling would get tossed around head up against a center.

vast improvement in J.Allen(2nd consecutive season as CB, 2nd consecutive season same defence

We are changing our defense again, well the secondary anyhow. They are gonna run that "quarters" thing.

So bad news for Jason Allen.

But he is at the same position. Practicing at the same position that he played all last season should definitely help out, whether or not the scheme changed. As I have said before, worst case scenario, Jason Allen is our third or fourth best CB. In my opinion, this is a good problem to have.

Totally agree!!!!!!!

I think some people forget, he was chosen ahead of Allen and Goodman to go one-on-one with Moss last year and did good job.

Excellent Analysis, but I still think we have a huge hole behind Ferguson and we have to be hoping a DT or NT becomes available. Soliai is overweight and will have to really make the team this year and Joe Cohen and Louis Ellis are very young especially Ellis who is extremly Raw. My hope is we are not done in FA if a DT becomes available.

Drafting 2 WRs and the team still has huge holes at the position? You want them to have 20 WRs just to be safe?

Practice has never been Jason Allen's weak spot. From my understanding he does very well during practice(at either position). Its during games he falls back on old habits and forgets/drops/abandons what he learned during those practices. Do to that tendency he's been dabbed "uncoachable" by our staff.

Is it a wonder why we went after a free safety before free agency began and spent 2 first day picks on corners?
