weakest starters?

1. Jeff Zgonina
2. Seth McKinney

Question Marks:
3. Vonnie Holiday
4. Travis Daniels
5. Tebucky Jones
6. Jeno James

Notes: Middleton, Traylor, and Schulters are not listed as starters... you can purge them from your list. Mare is above average.

Me too, that list is bullsh!t

Then which 10 starters would you name as our weakest???

There's only 22 starters plus K and P, so only 24 to pick from....

So if not the 10 listed, then which of the remaining 14 would you add???
Remember, by naming our 10 weakest, it's not saying they're "BAD" players, just not as strong as our other 14 players. Heck, even on the All-Pro NFL team, you could pick out the 10 "weakest" starters. It's all relative.

OFFENSE:
WR Chambers
WR Booker
QB Gus/AJ
RB Ricky/Ronnie
FB Evans
TE McMichael
LT Carey
LG James
C Hadnot (Starter I guess)
RG Middleton (Starter I guess)
RT McDougle

P Turk
K Mare

DEFENSE:
DE Taylor
DE Carter
DT Holliday
DT Zgonina
OLB Seau
MLB Thomas
OLB Spragen
CB Madison
CB Daniels
SS Jones
FS Schulters/Bell

I've bolded the 10 I think are weakest, without ranking them...
Assuming everyone's healty & as of RIGHT NOW (players could surprise/develop)
Hadnot I picked since he's not played C in the NFL before...

Jeno James? I wouldn't say he's a weak link. he was the only lineman that played well for us until Hadnot came around last season.

Well I think the point of the list was to show how not weak some of our weak links are.

and DEFINATLY, M. Grandy is the bills weakest starter, but i dont htink he will be the starter at the start of the season.

yeah. apparently he's looking pretty pitiful in bill's camp. trey teague may have to move to LT after all. I wouldn't suggest signing Verba, as you might have to overpay.

I'm not so sure about that.

But 10 is A LOT (almost half) of starters to group as "weakest" starters. So unless you're the Cardinals or Browns, you're obviously going to include some solid starters in the list, even though they ARE weaker than the other starters.

Remember, even on the All-Pro NFL team, you could name the 10 "weakest" starters. It's all relative...

I think the poster was just trying to point out the 10 positions we'd upgrade first if we could....

Hey, Mile High....put your glasses on..we can all read your post w/o the large font...LOL

Nice retort......

Care to comment on the substance of my post now???
Or was my post that spot-on???

weak areas

My main worries

QB
Please Feeley show some composure with this improved line,
or serve us up a bowl of Leinart.

Both safeties
The team has decent depth here, but no great starters.
Hopefully Saban can work some magic with his db coach background.

Not so worried here

travis daniels-cb

It's never a good feeling starting a rookie at cb,
even when it's a first round pick. A fourth round
pick starting should definitely send shivers down your
spine. However, whomever is the best of the bunch out
of daniels, howard, edwards, shouldn't be horrible.
The real problem will be when teams line up 4 wrs. Uggh!

frank middleton/john st. clair/seth mckinney-rg

One of these guys will end up fitting in nicely. There
shouldn't be any problems

donnie spragen/channing crowder/david bowens-olb

I don't feel that this is that much of a weakness
especially because 70% of the time a third corner
will be on the field in place of this position.
That 3rd corner's ability is another story altogether :goof:

heath evans/jamar martin/possibly sammy morris-fb

Not an issue when you can just play ricky at hb and let brown play a little fb
I also feel that sticking boston in the slot would much more soften up the front for the run than what a fullback could offer

kangphin

1. Seth McKinney
2 & 3 - whoever's slotted in as safeties
4. Travis Daniels
5. Starting QB - whoever that is.

I think most of the guys metioned in this thread are more question marks then weak starters. Many of these guys do have a chance at being solid.

a team is only as good as its weakest link, just look at last season.
who would would you rank as our top ten weakest starters right now?

i would have to say:
10. vonnie holliday dt
9. lance schulters fs
8. gus ferotte/aj feeley qb
7. heath evans fb
6. olindo mare k
5. keith traylor dt
4. travis daniels cb
3. jeno james lg
2. tebucky jones ss
1. frank middleton rg

sure this is a season of rebulding, reworking and retooling, however we do not have that many holes on our team. a lot of these guys are good, solid players that would could start for multiple teams. its a testament to the quality of the other players. last year i never would have thought jeno james would be one of our weakest players...

im interested what everyone else's opinions are.
of course, this is based on who you speculate to be starting...

on a side note, if i had to pick the weakest starter in the whole AFC east, id have to say mike gandy buf. id hate to be in that position again where the weakest link is the LT.

ROFL those are our WEAKEST starters?

Vonnie Holliday will be a machine. Even at KC he was good, but he was not being used right. In Miami Saban will utilize him like no other.

Lance Shulters has been our biggest improvement in the secondary this year. He could possibly be our best player in the defensive secondary.

The quarterback situation sounds right, but I'd bump them down the list. QB could be our biggest problem this year.

Heath Evans isn't our weakest starter, but fact is will he start? Sammie Morris and Jamar Martin are both talented. Morris is an amazing running FB, while Martin is an amazing blocking FB.

Olindo Mare could be the best kicker in the NFL this year. But at his worst state he is still good (above average).

Keith Traylor could be the anchor to our defense this year. A nice big body to beat the hell out of offensive lineman. He is exactly what we needed.

Travis Daniels is a rookie, he will be a weaker starter. Being at the CB he could be the weakest. He has alot to learn, and will be facing some great WRs this year.

Jeno James was our BEST offensive lineman last year. He has all the tools to continue to be the best this year, but will have more competition.

Tubucky is definately getting older, but this guy reminds me of Sammy Knight. In my opinion he will do fine, but expect to see him get beat on deep coverage.

If Frank Middleton stays healthy, and actually starts, he has a good shot at being our best offensive lineman, it really comes down to him and Jeno. Don't forget about Stockar though.

A more realistic list (in no particular order) would be;

Matt Turk
Daniels
Crowder (should he play)
Zgonia
Feeley
Frerotte
McKinney (should he play)

I'd also keep an eye out on Hadnot, Carey, Roth, and Spragan. At least they have potential to dominate though.
