### Dolphins owner Stephen Ross decided to keep Joe Philbin because he likes the work Philbin has done and also values continuity. But Ross told me he also likes the progress Ryan Tannehill has made under Philbin and Bill Lazor and didn’t want to disrupt that. Tannehill enters the final weekend 15th in passer rating, fifth in completions, sixth in completion percentage, 11th in yards and 12th in touchdowns (26, compared with 12 picks).

### Factoring in $7.9 million of unused carryover space, the Dolphins will enter the offseason about $6 million below the projected $140 million cap.

And they would have $30 million in cap space if they release Dannell Ellerbe ($5.6 million savings), Cortland Finnegan ($5.5 million), Randy Starks ($5 million), Brandon Gibson ($3.2 million), Shelley Smith ($2.8 million) and Nate Garner ($1.6 million).

That, perhaps with a couple of other restructurings, would create enough space to re-sign Charles Clay and add quality free agents at defensive tackle, cornerback, safety and guard. FYI: Brian Hartline’s cap saving would be $3.1 million if he’s cut.

### Left tackle Branden Albert, recovering from major knee surgery, said Monday he remains hopeful he will be ready for the start of training camp but has no firm timetable

I'm glad the owners thinking of my qb now I'd like for him to demand faster tempo in 2015 from the get go...and I would love to see this offense next season use the read option on a limited basis and be able to run the ball out of other things...

These are my wishes...it's Xmas so what the hell

Damn that Shelley smith $2.8 number sticks out...didn't know it was that high...I'd like to keep him but at that price seems steep

hartline, Gibson, Ellerbe, starks, Finnegan all need to be let go. also need to work on restructuring some contracts. maybe Wallace, and for the love of god somehow fix wheelers crap deal. we need money to upgrade. hartline doesn't fit the new system and needs to go. he is eating up cap that can be used on a decent dt.

I think what I'd do is Id make Shelley smith take a pay cut if he wants to come back...don't think he has much market...cut that number in half and see if he takes it or leaves it...I don't want to lose physical presence at guard especially when I got a buttercup in Dallas thomas still around

Although ideally he'd be a active on game day depth guy if I can help it...

have you noticed how much better our run game is when smith is in over college though? neither are very good.

Maybe even a Wallace restructre.

He's not a diva by any means, and he enjoys it here. I see no reason why he won't restructure if they ask.

My thoughts exactly. Especially when you got decent cap savings with Nate Garner getting the axe and the fact that Dallas Thomas is basically an open roster spot, we could really use Shelley for depth.

In other news, is John Denney going to be here till he's 80? Do people still realize he is infact on the team?

I would can all those players that Jackson listed…not Hartline just yet. However, the team can survive without all of them.

At first thought, I am going heavy in FA on defense and in the draft more offense. Preliminary thoughts right now only.

Ross' keeping Joe does keep RT in the same system which is one of the best arguments to keep the coach. I said it myself. Also, giving Dennis Hickey another swing at things is another positive.

Isn't ironic that the QB Joe tossed under the bus before going to London is the reason in part Joe is coming back for another year? Lucky bastard.

I would re-do as well. He is a really good football player. He can have bad body language at times and it can frustrating. However, every player has warts and Wallace has worked hard and helped this team win.

He is part of the solution not the problem.

Smiths the best pull and trap guard in the run game on the roster that got game run this year...he moves guys out...he just oversets in pass pro at times...pounceys going back to center next year the only way satele returns is injury type signing I'm fairly confident of that and colledge is gone...

If we could end up with a albert Franklin in free agency pouncey turner James oline with smith as guard depth active on game day I think we could be one hell of an oline in 2015 and have james as the plan b left tackle and Franklin as the plan b right tackle and turner could also slide out there if need be

Then I think we have all our bases covered...maybe still would need a versatile interior option for depth that can play center but teams have proven this year in the draft you can find centers to help you very late...the one thing both the starting rookie late round centers in the league have is the ability to anchor and bull strength...neither are elite athletes but they not softies either

Good guy Ryan saves his coach's job.

Scumbag Geno says "Coaching change could be good for us."
