Hey everyone,

After a win like yesterday, it's hard not to try to think about the Lions a bit and wonder how we will match up against the top ranked defense in football. I think that we stand more of a chance than people will give us credit for. It seems like the win versus the Chargers has been another one of those games where the media asks more about what the Chargers did wrong than what the Dolphins did right. Bugs the crap out of me.

The opening line has the Lions favored by 2 points.

So what are your concerns, likes/dislikes, etc with this game? I would say that I expect the line to change in our favor but that is probably just going a bit too far lol.

If we can figure out how to keep Suh from completely wrecking our pass protection and running game, I like our chances.

1. I think Matt Stafford is careless with the football, and he isn't a particularly mobile quarterback. He is the kind of guy our pass rush and secondary can cause problems for.
2. Detroit's secondary is not great, which means that there are plays to be made back there if we can protect the quarterback. This is the game where the deep ball could be a factor.
3. Jim Caldwell is a real bad coach. If I had to pick one NFL head coach that I think Joe Philbin can definitively outcoach any day of the week, it's Jim Caldwell. Dude is straight up clueless.

With Fairley out, I think we got a good shot to upset them.

Fairley and Mosley are both out, use Satele and Pouncey to double suh. Our tackles can handle there edge rushers. If we can contain Suh, we can win this game.

Here are some injury updates from today.

Michael Rothstein @mikerothstein ·
No Pettigrew, Fauria, Ebron, Fairley at #Lions practice. Calvin, Reggie back at practice

Ho are their OT's? I think that's a question Miam opponents need wory about very week. I loved our matchup vs Fluker and Dunlap but no othig about Detroit's OT's.

Offensively, we'll need our short to intermediate routes early. Jarvis could have a big day, as well as Clay. Detroit doesn't give up too many long plays, and their run defense is top notch. We'll need Tannehill to loosen up the inside run stuffing and pocket collapsing with his rush option, rollouts, and screens.

Defensively, Detroit statistically does not run well, so I expect us to play them similarly to how we played San Diego - a lot of well-disguised blitzes to confuse Stafford.

Suh, is my main concern naturally, and I hope Lazor does not dial up many 5 step drops or Play Action with HB to the inside. I hope any deep balls dialed up come off of bootlegs.

An article last week suggested Miami got its wins against bad teams. Well if Miami has done that then so had Detroit. The only team worth a crap they have beaten was Green Bay at home. Everyone else is .500 or worse. Their losses are to Carolina and Buffalo, both mediocre teams but with something in common with Miami, solid defense. I like our chances.

Get pressure on Stafford and he absolutely will turn it over. Its what you call Staffording. I don't think that defense is as good as everyone thinks they are missing Fairly too.

My keys

Get to Stafford with 4 man rush we must cover Calvin and Tate well
Protect Tannehill. If you stop their pass rush they are very soft in the secondary

My concerns lie mainly with our psyche...of course they have a good defense with a stout dline and this has given us fits in the recent past, see buffalo bills... But outside of just facing a good defense I'm concerned that this team, that is still learning to win and consistently perform in big games allows some confidence to change to complacency. We had a big emotional factor, with joes dad passing and you can hear the teams sentiment that this ones for you Joe (which I love FYI) but that emotional factor is not there this week and we need to remain mentally focused and strong. This team is right there ready to climb over the top and become a team people respect but we can't expect to win, we have to continue to work hard and earn wins. Historically we have laid eggs when facing weaker opponents, and this year we have taken care of the teams we are "suppose" to beat. But the next step is to keep beating teams that match up well vs us. I truly hope these offensive performances are a sign that the players are getting comfortable in the new system and the production continues, because if that happens and we can maintain a solid mental psyche, paired with this defense, we can hang with the best in the league and surprise some people!!!

Go fins!

I watch the Lions play every week and they are a good football team. Jim Caldwell is not a great game day guy but since he took over the biggest difference has been the discipline they play with.

The Lions also find ways to win. They have been without Calvin Johnson since week 3. No doubt a huge loss but Golden Tate is a #1 playing in a #2 role and has stepped up. All 3 TEs have been out and it's uncertain who will be ready to go. Reggie Bush will be back as will CJ Mosely on the defensive side.

As for Stafford he is one of a few guys that have thrown for 5000 yards in a season and he missed doing it a second time by 27 yards. You only need to look at the last game they played against Atlanta in London and you see Stafford was throwing to guys who are normally inactive on game day yet he brings the Lions from 3 TDs down at the half to a win.

Detroit has also had 2 weeks to prepare and get healthy. On top of that, Ford Field is almost s noisy as Seattle and it will be rocking Sunday. Finally, the national media is talking about the Dolphins being contenders. When that happens this team has failed to deliver. Let's hope they have learned from that and take the next step.

I have this the toughest game left on the schedule and am skeptical they can win. 3 in a row on the road is tough and this is against a good team also looking to take the next step. Should be a good game.

Very well said and I agree with most every thing. I do think the game in mile high will be a little tougher to win, but this will be a really tough test.

As for the OP thinking the line will drop from +2?? All the sites I use have it at +3 and I can only see it going up. 5-3 on the road in the cold vs 6-2 and 6-2 had a week off, and the spread is only 3?? I expect it to be 4.5 by kickoff. The lions have the talent to go to the Super Bowl. Not sure they have the coaching, but they have the talent. If that team gets all 3 TEs back they could really go on a roll.
