I did this last week. A little more drunk this week, but I'll try to make sense.

Positives:

  • Defensive line. They contained James and didn't give up over 100 yards rushing. That is a positive.
  • Chad Henne. Yes, maybe he came in during garbage time. However, he made the receivers actually look like they were on the field. He controlled the offense and created a touchdown drive. If it wasn't for the Ronnie Brown drop, he would have had a TD to go along with it. I'm not saying start him now, I'm just saying ... he did well.
  • Davone Bess. He's not looking like the UDFA most expect. He looked good on kick returns and helped to move the ball on offense. Granted he only had a couple receptions and a rushing attempt, but he was hustling, and I like that.
  • Offensive Line. Only gave up a couple sacks and contained better this game. Seemed like less penalties this time around. They didn't do everything expected, but they improved over last week. That is a positive.
Negatives:

  • Secondary. Again. They gave up over 140 yards on just 2 passes. Chris Crocker looked like a joke when Fitzgerald spun around him. Andre Goodman's only "coverage" was pass interferences and holding calls. Warner had a 158.3 passer rating I believe. That, if anything, is an attribute to the weak secondary. This should count for 3 negatives alone.
  • Running game. Once again, can't break 100 yards between two of the better backs in the NFL. They increased the amount of handoffs, but not enough when the passing game isn't there.
  • Linebackers. They need to pressure more. I know they got to him a bit, but not nearly enough for a 3-4 defense. Porter and Crocker contributed 3 solo tackles combined. I don't fault Ayodele for the Boldin thing, and tip my hat to his 5 tackles, but overall, I wasn't impress with the linebackers.
  • Wide receivers. Henne definitely made them look better. But notice how Ginn actually got his name called late in the 4th. You can't win a game when your #1 receiver doesn't make a catch until later in the 4th quarter. A little under 130 yards for all receivers played isn't impressive.
  • Pennington. Sure, he didn't turn over at all, however, 50% completion for only 120 yards isn't impressive. He averaged 12 yds/pass and only threw downfield a couple of times. You can't expect to win some games with that kind of play.
Maybe I'm a little more harsh tonight because I'm happily intoxicated on a sad defeat, but these are my thoughts.

What dont you just call this thread.....THE NEGATIVES and the BS. Aside from Henne looking decent and then making a couple bad throws around the goal line.....what positives are you talking about that arent complete BS?

The OL completely blew.

The DL didnt give up 100 yards rushing, based on the fact that Warner could throw it for big yards at will. I thought Zona's run game was quite successful when they used it.

Bess was really nothing special. Nothing to knock about his play, but nothing to praise. He is a rookie and contributed as much as expected. I wouldnt stretch that into a positive.

I'll say it on every board.

We are 1-20. We are the Miami Dolphins. We are the joke of the NFL. We live in the past. We last won the SB in 1973. We have no stars on D, O, or ST. We have the #1 pick in the draft. We have everyone against us. We have no one that fears us. We have the worst fans. We have the worst stadium. We have a bad coach. I can go on...

I will not give up hope.

Because I'm trying to look for *some* positives. I'm ultimately comparing the positives and negatives to last week. Overall, Bess was a positive to last week. Overall, the DL in terms of rushing was a positive to last week. Overall, the lack of offensive penalties was a positive to last week.

I'm not calling it great, but I'm calling those an improvement. And an improvement is a positive to me.

Dude, really. You said you're not giving up, but that post had I give up written all over it. R.I.P. Miami Dolphins??? Really???

the deep pass Pennington threw in the end zone was very good and if not for a great play by the corner, it would've been an easy TD. there's a positive.

Non-competitive in the NFL is the definition of negative.

The league is designed to make 1 of 21 virtually impossible.

Early this morning in the Barbary Coast sportsbook I heard an old lady make a joke about how bad the Dolphins are. That's how far we've fallen. She looked 85. She said when she is filling out her weekly picks card the first thing she does is take Miami to lose.

About our pass rush. Did we blitz much? It seemed like we always had our LBs back in coverage and were never sending more then a 4 man rush. I know our secondary needed all the help they could get but just wondering if anyone else noticed a lack of blitzes from the LBs.

Bad showing against a good Cards team with Kurt Warner on it. Miami needs to beat the Pats next week, if they want a chance at going.500 because if they don't the Chargers, Texans, and Broncos will paste them and Miami will pack it in. With the Ravens, Raiders, Bills, Seahawks, Rams, 49ers, and Chiefs on the schedule anything is still possible though.

I think this sums the thread up better.

I noticed that also. We went to a 4-man line where we would have Crowder and Bell as LBs. This gave us more DB's, but it also opened up the run big-time. I can not fault the line for that. They defensive set was being used because we were getting flamed in the secondary...I gues they tried to take the better of two evils..

We get the point...you just learned to copy and paste

The one to Wilford? If he had half an arm, it would have been a TD. It took to long to get there.
