I did this last week. A little more drunk this week, but I'll try to make sense.
Positives:
Positives:
- Defensive line. They contained James and didn't give up over 100 yards rushing. That is a positive.
- Chad Henne. Yes, maybe he came in during garbage time. However, he made the receivers actually look like they were on the field. He controlled the offense and created a touchdown drive. If it wasn't for the Ronnie Brown drop, he would have had a TD to go along with it. I'm not saying start him now, I'm just saying ... he did well.
- Davone Bess. He's not looking like the UDFA most expect. He looked good on kick returns and helped to move the ball on offense. Granted he only had a couple receptions and a rushing attempt, but he was hustling, and I like that.
- Offensive Line. Only gave up a couple sacks and contained better this game. Seemed like less penalties this time around. They didn't do everything expected, but they improved over last week. That is a positive.
- Secondary. Again. They gave up over 140 yards on just 2 passes. Chris Crocker looked like a joke when Fitzgerald spun around him. Andre Goodman's only "coverage" was pass interferences and holding calls. Warner had a 158.3 passer rating I believe. That, if anything, is an attribute to the weak secondary. This should count for 3 negatives alone.
- Running game. Once again, can't break 100 yards between two of the better backs in the NFL. They increased the amount of handoffs, but not enough when the passing game isn't there.
- Linebackers. They need to pressure more. I know they got to him a bit, but not nearly enough for a 3-4 defense. Porter and Crocker contributed 3 solo tackles combined. I don't fault Ayodele for the Boldin thing, and tip my hat to his 5 tackles, but overall, I wasn't impress with the linebackers.
- Wide receivers. Henne definitely made them look better. But notice how Ginn actually got his name called late in the 4th. You can't win a game when your #1 receiver doesn't make a catch until later in the 4th quarter. A little under 130 yards for all receivers played isn't impressive.
- Pennington. Sure, he didn't turn over at all, however, 50% completion for only 120 yards isn't impressive. He averaged 12 yds/pass and only threw downfield a couple of times. You can't expect to win some games with that kind of play.
