I know there seems to be a pattern that all coaches follow as far as playing time goes in the 3rd preseason game, but I think we need to throw that out the window completely. Tannehill shouldn't play til halftime if he doesn't need to. I think maybe two drives and then certain key players should sit, even if it is about 20 players.

I see your point, however the starters likely will not play at all in week 4 giving them a pretty good amount of time off before our week 1 matchup with Washington. I would be comfortable with the first quarter and perhaps even a series or two into the second quarter.

I would limit Tannehills playing time based upon how the O line holds up, if Fox is healthy and look half passable I would let him play the half. If Fox is out (and I dont overly like Fox) I would wrap Tannehill in bubble wrap and sit him down beside Ross to watch the entire game

I didn't like the playcalling at all vs the Panthers, too many short passes for less than 5 yds. We need to make the playoffs this year, this is our year. Tannehill should play the entire half because he needs the rep which will better his timing with his receivers.

It would be unprecedented to sit Tannehill week 3. Having him throw 3 more meaningless TDs isnt worth the risk I thin no matter who is in there. We should sit Pouncey and James as well. Juice and Miller too,

There's no game planning involved in pre-season. I know that's said a lot so I'll try to quickly explain rather than just throwing it out there again.

Coaches are more interested in player evaluation and running certain plays as a team to get them on tape, than they are concerned about down & distance and situational football. In the pre-season coaches do not spend any time analyzing the opponent and game planning for strengths/weaknesses nor do they spend any time scripting plays. Of course, the general goal is to drive down the field and score, but coaches couldn't (and shouldn't) care less about the outcome of the game and are more interested in seeing players in real speed vs an opponent for fundamental evaluation. This goes for the first team as much as it does for the 2nd-3rd & 4th string.

i agree, let's show everyone our complete arsenal and playbook in pre-season. no need to hold it back yo

Play RT the first half and the 1st series of the 2nd half along with the first team offense and OL, if he does well then he doesn't dress for the last preseason game....

How 'bout he sits for the 4th regardless. That's usually what is done with the starters anyways.

If we sat RT for the week 3 game and only played him a series in week 4 and he struggled week 1 of the season, I doubt many would be yelling that he needed that week 3 game.

and that's an argument to open up the playbook in pre-season? with your starting LT out?

It's not part of the evaluation process to get 1st downs, move the ball downfield and score TD's during the pre-season??? Unless your argument is to interview the punter???
