Well, if nothing else at least it's been active. That said, I believe we're on the precipice of yet another rebuilding year. Let's review:

Letting Philbin ride out his last year: I'm thinking this was more of a cost savings than anything. He really should've gone at the end of last season, and I believe he will be at the end of this one.

Hiring Mike Tannenbaum: This is a tough one. I know that it's easy to want to place blame on one single individual (usually in the FO) for the failings of a team, so I'm reluctant to do that, but it's hard to look past the Jets track record during his duration there. While it's also easy to give him credit for representing and acquiring a lot of high-level talent, I think any snake oil salesman with enough money behind them could do that. Ross could've done it on his own with Cowher, Harbaugh, Manning, etc. if he'd been any kind of salesman (and he wasn't forcing those individuals to be stuck with his chosen FO staff, and our team didn't suck).

Stadium Renovations: Just like everyone here seems to love the new logo (which I still think is the worst in the NFL), it seems lots of people are in favor of these renovations. While I think extending the seats closer to the field is a good thing, and having new seats and video screens will probably prove to be good in the end, I think that monstrosity they plan on putting on the roof is the biggest piece of **** I've ever seen. I think if anything, it will turn the stadium into a giant sauna because there is no ventilation from the sides. Not to mention, having the hole in the roof will probably cast all kinds of shadows on the field. I'm not even necessarily in favor of an entirely new stadium (though I'm not opposed) because I like keeping history in one location, but this just sucks in my opinion. I would've rather they left it alone, or at least not do the roof thing. We are now I believe the only team in the NFL that still has an all-purpose field, and it's starting to seem to me that Ross' propensity for bringing Super Bowls to Miami, outweighs his desire to get his team into said Super Bowls.

Acquiring Suh/Cutting: Hartline, Gibson, Finnegan, Odrick…and more to come! Not loving this at all. I could get really long-winded here, so I'll try not to, but basically we made a ton of cap space for Suh. While I know that Ross loves his big name players he can market, and Tannenbaum needed to make his stamp, Suh can't carry the whole team! I would even argue that this will go down as a really bad decision. He is a play marker, no doubt. We should all be excited about his arrival in Miami (I know I am), but whereas this team had a handful of positions that needed to be addressed this offseason, we've know traded one problem for another. We are in a division with one of the greatest passers of all-time, why the hell would you let your pro bowl corner go? Did they not see how his absence was exploited when he was injured? What about Hartline and Gibson, is our entire receiving corps now Wallace and Landry? Landry's been good, and has plenty of long term potential so he's fine for now, but what about Wallace? How many times has he connected with Tannehill on the deep ball? Once, twice? Maybe? We never should've let Marshall go. Now on to Suh…Don't we have the same coach that didn't want anybody with character issues on the team? This guy is gonna be getting flags thrown left and right, he doesn't have the reputation of being one of the dirtiest players in the game for nothing, and now he can add highest-priced to that mantel. I love the guys play, so I'm not disputing that he will add a lot to this team, but if it came at the expense of having to cut some of our most productive guys, was it really worth it in the long run?

Tannehill $100 million dollar extension: If this comes to fruition it might be the move that finally causes my brain to explode this offseason. I don't like Tannehill, it's not a secret, its fine if you disagree with me. That said, this has been an experiment from day 1, and while he has improved each year, has it to been to the level to warrant an extension of this magnitude? No way. This problem is compounded by the fact that in the very real possibility this season tanks and we lose Philbin (and possibly Hickey as well), whoever comes in next will be saddled with Tannehill's enormous contract, basically handcuffing them from making any significant moves without having to release half the roster.

…and we're not even to the draft yet.

I haven't felt this bad about or prospects since 2007. I'd love to be wrong, but NE is firing on all cylinders still, and while the Jets and Bills are rarely ever a threat, they are both going through big shake-ups, so it's not out of the question that one or both could be significantly improved this year.

If you had to assign the offseason to this point a letter grade, where are you at? I'm at a "C" right now.

Wow, logo, Suh, Tannehill, our staff...you must be one sad guy as a fan of this team.

As a person who likes our logo, the Suh signing, extending Tannehill, and the fact that Philbin is on a super short leash, I'm quite surprised how positive I feel right now given the team's crappy play down the stretch last year.

Not understanding your gripes with who we let go, or why you think we're screwed.

Finnegan was 50/50 last year, and was on the verge of retiring anyways (He may still, from what I've last read)
Gibson was injured, and got beat out by Landry. Why pay big money to a guy who got beat by a rookie?
Hartline has been discussed to death on FH, I'll skip this one.
Odrick is a good player but could have been upgraded from... and so we did.
Garner barely played last year with injury.

That said, we can still draft WR's, CB's, RB's, TE's, etc. I dunno why you'd think our prospects are looking bleak.

It seems as though the OP needs some anti-depressants. I get that nobody is going to always be happy about everything to do with their team but, we've made some solid moves the past couple of years. Aside from our coaching staff issues, I can't see how what we've done has been terrible. Some people will just never be satisfied.

 at least we have a logo

Are you a Fin fan???

Talk about a ton of black cloud inspired negativity. Hopefully one day you'll be in a happier place as a fan.

I think Tannehill is going to be a pretty dang good QB if we get him help.

But unfortunately I don't think we're going to get him that help. We're about to apparently sign Suh to that monster contract and now we're probably going to throw the rest of our cap space for the next 5 years away on mediocre/awful players just like Ireland did. Still can't believe Philbin got a free pass for last year while we handcuffed Hickey with Mike ****ing Tannebaum. The worst part? I think Tannebaum is going to get multiple years to prove his incompetence.

Going into rebuilding? I wish. It looks more like we're about to crash and burn to me.

We are in a division with one of the greatest passers of all-time, why the hell would you let your pro bowl corner go? Did they not see how his absence was exploited when he was injured?

Had to stop reading after this. What Pro Bowl corner did we let go? I sure as hell hope you aren't talking about Finnegan, because if so, I may have to put you on my ignore list.

Human beings are fascinating. Every year I tell myself not to get hyped up about the Dolphins offseason ( because I'm bound to be disappointed by week 7). The Fins, however, have got me stoked. I have to say I feel exactly the opposite on every single opinion of the OP. It's crazy to think people could have such polarizing opinions on things haha. Good riddance to the above mentioned average joes on our team. Landed the biggest free agent in Miami Dolphins history. Upgraded the stadium. Pieces will be placed around Tannehill to save Philbin's job. Rebuilding? No way, this is a "get it done now" offseason! You think this coaching staff has time to rebuild??? Haha I like where we are going, now let's get it done.

I have to say…sometimes I feel like this place should be renamed "homer heaven". I'm forever amazed that if anyone ever has anything other than glowingly positive thoughts about the direction of this team, then they must have a mental condition, need antidepressants, should follow another team, blah blah blah.

I don't mind if you disagree with me, but if you don't have a reason for disagreeing than why reply? That said, I stand by everything I said, and I guess we'll just have to see how the season plays out.

Had to stop reading after this. What Pro Bowl corner did we let go? I sure as hell hope you aren't talking about Finnegan, because if so, I may have to put you on my ignore list.
Obviously, you're being sarcastic, but Finnegan most certainly has made a Pro Bowl (not for us), but seriously think about the corners we've had over the last decade and tell me how many we've had that you honestly believe are as good or better than him? Unless we plan on singing Revis, or you know of a great draft prospect I'm unaware of it, it was a stupid move to let him go. Grimes was/is the better of the two, but we still couldn't afford to lose him.

This is a big concern of mine as well. I think it's generally a bad idea to appoint high priced roles in the office when it's very likely that your coach will be gone by season's end. To me it feels like Ross doesn't learn from his mistakes, and that we're just repeating Ireland all over again. It was widely reported that the reason a lot of head coaches wouldn't come near us was because they knew they'd be saddled with him and Ross wouldn't let them bring in their own staff. The same exact thing is happening now, Philbin's gonna blow it, and when he does, and he gets ****canned, Tannenbaum stays and the new coach is stuck. Not to mention, for everyone that needs me to be positive, here ya go: I think Hickey did a damn good job with his first draft for us (though I would've taken Manziel over James, go ahead and laugh, hindsights 20/20) but now that he'll be butting heads with Tannenbaum, who knows whats liable to happen. Between Ross, Aponte, Hickey, and Tannenbaum I think we have too many cooks in the kitchen.

Finnegan made the probowl in like 1989. Seriously, he was injured / shot at the end of the year. I'd rather load up w a few studs who make everyone else look better than fill our holes 7 more Shelley Smiths. We've been doing this forever and it hasn't worked. Suh means our front line gives us a real chance against NE. Look what the Bills did when they got Super Mario. I thought they were idiots when they gave him $96 mil but they have one of the best D's in football and they still are able to afford a deep running and WR stable. If they had a QB they'd be awesome. I think we have our QB. Let's play this out - RT takes another big step - the whole offense w Fat Albert back is that much better. The D will be good w the front line being the strength. We will be good. My biggest concern is Philbin coaches like a guy w a hot poker up his ass.

So you are saying that letting go of Hartline, Odrick, Finnegan Wheeler and probably Ellerbe, two B and C tier players, and acquiring the most dominant DL in the game today is a move you don't like? Lets compare Odricks and Suh's numbers alone which is laughable. Then lets compare Landry's numbers to Hartline? Then lets watch film and see how many missed tackles/sacks and how outta position Wheeler is when he's out there. Ellerbe cannot ever stay healthy and is horrible is pass coverage. I mean, whats the problem here? How old is Finnegan again? I would trade all those players for Suh today.
Secondly, you are upset that we have an owner looking to invest to help renovate a stadium to bring more excitement to the gameday experience? I mean, we could go around the league right now and see stadiums of owners who don't want to pull the trigger and make things like this happen.
As far as our prospects go, James and Landry were heavy contributors from day one. Jelani Jenkins had a career year and Oliver Vernon is improving. Hopefully Dion Jordan will improve. Reshad Jones didn't match his 2013 numbers but is still solid. Lamar Miller had a career year and Tannehill showed growth. What aren't you seeing here?
I'm not trying to attack here but you're giving the offseason grade a "C" letter grade because the team is trying to improve today and cut the fat all while renovating the stadium? Hard to please I guess.

This board is far from homer at all if you ask me. This board wants to see the effort and attempt to win. Thats what Steve Ross has done when from day 1. If you remember, we went all in on Jim Harbaugh his first year. Made a run at Peyton Manning. Signed Mike Wallace who was one of the prizes of FA 2 years ago. This year gets the prize of Free Agency in Suh. Has constantly tried to get a new stadium approved and built. I mean, how many other owners can claim to be that aggressive? The Philbin situation I think is what we all are baffled by but loyalty that Ross has shown Philbin only builds a reputation around the league that can help in the long run.
