No doubt you handicapped it right. It's too boring and irrelevant to be intentional.
In college I had something similar. The lead staff members at the Daily Trojan had to be up at the office until 2 or 3 AM and often I'd get drunk and write gag copy on the computers. One time I rambled on and on, fairly graphic about what I'd like to do with two of the top babes on campus. Well, a month later that article showed up in the annual spoof issue. Distributed to thousands. One girl on the staff was looking for copy and found that on the computer and used it, without telling anyone.
My name wasn't on it but there were enough references to make it unmistakable who wrote it. I was literally stealing every copy I could get my hands on and trashing them. At one party I grabbed 50 and hid them in the washing machine before the party was over.
Didn't work. One of the babes saw it and traced it to me, practically running away from me every time I passed her on campus. I guess it's supposed to be funny two decades later, but damn.
