I know most of you are thinking "yeah yeah, he was his coach, he has to back him", but he said all the below things in a post-practice interview that featured about 5 local reporters, not at one of his major pressers with the national media. I truly think that Weis believes in Brady as a qb, and not just because he was his coach in college.

Also, does anyone know what time the draft starts? Because Weis sounded very confident when he said that Brady would be drafted by the time his son's batting practice started at 2:00.




Q: What do you think Brady can do in the NFL?

CW: First thing is, I think he can play early. When you're going to invest millions of dollars on a guy high in the draft at that position, you're counting on them that they can play early, and I think he's ready to play early. Now I think that's significant, because in the day of free agency you can't afford to take a guy high in the draft at his position and sit him there a few years until he's ready to play. You better be able to put him in there and play him.

Q: Notre Dame in the past 15-17 years hasn't had a great success rate of producing NFL QB's. What makes you think he could change that?

CW: Whether or not he will be a good qb in the NFL?

Q: Yeah

CW: Book it.

Q: But why?

CW: I don't think I need to say why. I think that everything about him points to him being a successful qb in the NFL. The way he carries himself on and off the field, his athletic ability, his moxy, his leadership. That special "it" that some people have? Well he has it. I'm a big Brady Quinn fan. Put it like this, if I were a head coach in the NFL, he could play for me.



Basically this was a direct response to the couple threads around here that were skeptical of BQ....and because I'm a homer. :lol:

i think brady quinn will suceed in the nfl as a rookie IF he doesnt go to oakland or detroit. they tend to ruin young QBs.
 
Well it's his player of course he said nice things. I don't take his opinion to mean anything IMO. I think Quinn will be great, but I wouldn't take Weis word on it because of what I said before. No coach speaks poorly of his players.

Wanstache is doing the same thing for Palko
 
What really matters is what Cam and Muller think but in the end I don't think Quinn'll be there for us anyway....I really think he's going 1 or 2.

I think you're right to an extent, but for a year Weis has gone out of his way to say how much he believes in Quinn. If he didnt mean it he'd give the "right" answer when asked but he wouldnt go out of his way to talk up Quinn.

Should be 12pm like every other year, meaning he thinks Quinn will be gone by #8 since they always use the full 15 minutes (even last year when the Texans signed Mario Williams the night BEFORE the draft they still took all 15 minutes :confused:).

Hopefully we trade up to #6 and take him by 1:30 :lol:
 
Quinn can succeed but not in a bottomless pit team like Oakland, Detroit, or Cleveland. Best case would probably be us. We've got an offensive system tailored to his strengths that is headed by an offensive minded coach who is also good with mentoring young QB's, his draft mentor, a solid defense to back him up, a superb running game that can only get more dangerous if RW returns. Only thing we're iffy on is WR and OL but there's still upsides there.
 
I wouldn't be mad about trading up to take him, even if we lost some valuable picks. If you can get your QB for the next 10 years, and he truly has that gift, then I say it's worth doing it. It truly is the most important position in ALL of sports.

I agree with you Shula, and that's the reason I posted this. Granted every coach will talk up their players, but Weis has not changed his tune all year, and he hasn't talked up any of his former players nearly as much as he has Brady. The fact that he said that Brady could play for him in the NFL speaks volumes, because CW is very demanding of his qbs. I suppose the haters will say that CW has to say that to support his former players, and the people that like Brady will agree with me. Ah well, we'll know by next year at this time who was right and who was wrong.

When is the last time Oakland had a young qb ( a first round prospect)? None of this matters he'll never wear aqua and orange. I'd rather keep all our draft picks, and build a better football team. A qb can't win it all, as you guys should know.
 
It just dosnt seem that Miami is going to be able to get Quinn. It sucks but just dont see it happening.
