Before heading to classes, more than 200 Notre Dame students heard a lesson from new coach Charlie Weis on how future life will be on fall football Saturdays.
A 6 a.m. meeting at which maybe two dozen students were expected to show up had to be moved to the Joyce Center basketball arena Monday because of the large turnout.
Weis, who received a standing ovation when he walked in with a cup of coffee in his hand, went over everything from how he wants students to react during football games -- loud when the Irish are on defense and quiet when they are on offense -- to telling the students during the 40-minute talk that he doesn't want to hear excuses about why the Irish can't win, such as a tough schedule or demanding academics.
"You don't sit there and make a whole bunch of excuses," he said. "Walking in the door, there's too many excuses."
