Keep in mind, these are my opinions :). You may suggest a better pick.

I believe we will be picking either 2nd or 3rd.

1st Round: Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin - Joe Thomas is a solid LT that can be the foundation of the O-Line. He's got good quickness and footwork for a man his size (6'8" 315lbs.).

2nd Round: Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona - I may be a little too optimistic here, but I think Cason may fall. It seems his playing speed is much quicker than his timed speed. He's good in coverage and can definitely push to start right away.

3rd Round: Brian Smith, OLB, Missouri - A good option at OLB to take over where Spragan is right now. Spragan hasn't been what we needed and it seems like only Zach Thomas and Channing Crowder are the only reliable options.

4th Round: Craig Davis, WR, L.S.U. - Not exactly a #1 WR, but I think he can contribute. There's some good WR's in free agency that I feel we make a run for and possibly come back next year with some that can actually catch.

5th Round: To Detroit for Joey Harrington (6th becomes 5th due to extended play)

6th Round: Le'Ron McClain, FB, Alabama - Face it, we made a mistake letting Beasley go. Here's our chance to get a solid blocker for Ronnie Brown, and someone that can catch out of the backfield.

7th Round: BPA

Constructive critism is accepted. Anything you would change? Any options for the 7th Round?

Another mock -

Miami Dolphins trade Randy McMichael for an early 3rd Rounder.

1st Round: Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech - A big time playmaker. CJ can be a threat on every play and has a great mix of size and speed.

2nd Round: Arron Sears, OT, Tennessee - A big bruiser at LT. Not as tall as Joe Thomas and not as fluid, but very solid off the snap.

3rd Round(a): Brian Smith, OLB, Missouri - See above.

3rd Round(b): Troy Smith, QB, Ohio State - Daunte's injury seems to be worse than we expected and Joey Harrington is NOT the answer. Even though he is shorter than most pro QB's, Smith is a gamer.

4th Round: Jonathan Wade, CB, Tennessee - Another SEC guy. Wade has a good mix of size and speed. Good tackler and OK in coverage.

5th Round - 7th Round: Same as above

I like your Joe Thomas pick and McMichael trade...

The only thing that bothers me about Joe Thomas is that he is a good pass blocker, not a great one. Guys that are in the top 5 in the draft shouldn't need work on their primary responsibility, which is what a left tackle's would be.

Don't get me wrong - I've seen him play and he's a mauler in the running game and can simply overpower smaller DEs, but I want to see him get better at pass-pro during the rest of the season.

Arron Sears OT - not bad although I've seen him mostly as a 3rd round guy

First two rounds should be line man.

Wr's contribute very little in their first year. So even if what ever wr we get in the draft is a freak of nature he may only get like 750 yards and 5 td's ( a good year for a rookie wr), and team needs alot more production. We need lineman on both sides of the line of scrimmage. We have to dominate the line of scrimmage on every down, if we want a superbowl, and right now we don't. That is why our skill positions look so mediocre right now. That is our first agenda, and if I have a finger to point at Saban, is that he did not address the line of scrimmage issue from the moment he got here. He may have thought that what these players needed was better coaching, little did he now that his predecessor was the worst drafting coach in the history of the NFL.

you're not going to rebuild this team overnight. obviously our most pressing need is o-line, but if calvin johnson is there, we HAVE to take him. we can address the line in later rounds, free agency, or try out the young guys we have now (alabi and toledo), AND in future drafts.

you're right, rookie WR's rarely have great years, but we're not going to draft for next year, we're going to draft for the next 5-10 years.

True. Although in my mocks, I know the players are good for depth as well (with the exception of a few that could start right away).

:yeahthat:

I like the Brian Smith pick, and I would be happy with Joe Thomas or Calvin Johnson.

I have to argue with you. On some things.

Interesting. But I think if we draft a WR, it will be Calvin Johnson (not at this round, of course). But if not, then Marcus Vick and Fred Gibson will get looks in the offseason/pre-season.

6th Round: Le'Ron McClain, FB, Alabama - Face it, we made a mistake letting Beasley go. Here's our chance to get a solid blocker for Ronnie Brown, and someone that can catch out of the backfield.

Thing is, Darian Barnes is a great blocker. But as much as a great blocker Darian Barnes is, he's not an offensive linesman. And the thing is, even though he dropped that one catxh, I think that is the first time he was thrown to all year. Whether he caught it or not, he shouldn't be judged on that one play, especially if that's the first time he was utilized as a catcher.
