"One guy Saban must love, because the guy is just one of those overachiever types, is [wide receiver] Wes Welker. He had a bunch of all-purpose yards on Friday night [258 yards combined on seven kickoff returns, two punts returns and two receptions], and while there is nothing remarkable about the guy, he finds a way to get it done."

from Pasquerrelis Morning after article for this past week, it was in the Scouts Take section http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=pasquarelli_len&id=2202130

sorry if its been posted, but good to see the little guy getting some recognition...

He's a sportswriters dream. Underachieving do-it-all free agent. Plus he can play and he's arguably been our best player regardless of position.

Right on. Glad to see good performance recognized. I hope Saban shakes up the WR's and gets him in the #2 slot soon and benches Chambers.

wes should be the second WR

Welker would do a better job at being the 3rd/slot WR. His speed and quickness is more suited for that kind of role.

That will never happen. Do you actually think that Welker has more physical tools than Chambers. Welker is a slot receiver and will probably always be.

It is nice to see him being recognized though.

We don't HAVE to assume that. Hines Ward, Santana Moss, and Steve Smith are all shrimp boats that are getting the job done as number one guys. Welker isn't as fast as Santana, but he bears remarkable similarities to Hines Ward.

Welker needs to be given a shot to see if he can get the job done as a true #2 guy. He has earned that. Marty Booker has earned a dunce hat for dropping balls. But, there's no rush to get Welker into the lineup as #2. He's still in just his second year. If we feel like we'd rather him digest one position at a time, then we can always wait until next year, provided he continues to show the same things he is showing right now.

There are a lot of guys in the league that don't have the physical tools of Chris Chambers but still get the job done more consistently than Chris does.

Good point, I won't disagree with that.

wes welker is the man he reminds me of ricky prohel, he always steps it up and makes a big play when he needs to and never gets reconized, he made the game winning catch in teh nfc champ game aginst the bucs and had a td in teh super bowl and no one even knows that
