This off season there has been much speculation about whether wes will remain as the pr/kr guy. The most used reason is that "he lacks top end speed". Now i personally love the guy, but are we being skewed by the fact that he broke that 12 something year no st TD curse, or is he a legit threat?

If you look at the season stats he did very well:
Punt Return: 43 returns/12 Fair catches/464 yards/10.8 avg/long 71 yards
/0 TD/ 20+yards-7

Kick Return: 61 returns/1415 yards/23.2 avg/long 95 yards/ 1 TD/ long 71 yards/ 1 40+

For the fins these numbers are rather good. But how does he match up to the elite of the league. Terence Mcgee, and Dante hall.
Dante Hall:
Punt return:23 returns/232 yards/10.1 avg/long 46/0 td/4 20+
kick returns:68 returns/1718 yards/25.3 avg/long 97/2 TD/6 40+ yards

Terence McGee
Kick Return:52 returns/1370 yards/26.3 avg/long 104/ 3 TD/ 5 40+

So does he keep the job? Does he match-up against the better return men in the league. Is his ability to run full speed through traffic, and his agility enough to get us good field position?

Wes will be our return man. You're comparing his rookie season to veterans of KR's.

He is ABSOLUTELY a legitimate threat. He has great vision and instincts. Speed without that is worthless (see Jerris McPhail).

Alot of players have speed but Wes has that "it" that makes him a natural return man

Yes, Yes, Yes, and Hell yes!!!

Welker for sure!

Besides if Welker dosen't pan out we can draft Teddy Gin in a couple of years.

I'm all for Wes. It seemed that every time he returned the ball we would start in good position, arround the 30... and about once a game he would break one out to the 50 or more. Remember he almost had one for a TD in the Pats game, but was tripped up at the last second.

There are tons of guys that have speed, but he has vision and that's more important than speed IMO.

R u kidding? of course! who else do you know can give us good returns and back up mare???

We keep him, yes he lacks top end speed BUT! he is still very quick and most importantly elusive.... He just has that special knack for returning... its definatley the X factor in his game....

Welker is the only 5-tool football player.

But I wouldn't mind Devin Hester down the road

Wes had an unprecidented rookie year yo !!!! and the most important thing is... he consistently gave us solid returns, sometimes great ones, without losing the ball.
I'd rather have a guy who can make something outta nothing with his agility and elusiveness than someone who takes advantage of good blocking with their speed.

Another thing, Wes showed glimpses of performing in the clutch several times.. putting us in greaT field position in crucial situations. Oh yeah Wes knows he should have 2 TDs right now... the one against the Pats, he got too excited and made a bad move on the 5 yard line.

wes gave us something as a KR/PR that we haven't had in years, hope, every single time he touched the ball, and he never muffed it either. He is the only person on this team besides Jason and Chris that I think is completely safe.
