hey just a questtion ive looked on google for it and couldnt find it. and i was wondering what his 40 time is cause i no hes fast i just wouldlike to no how fast. o and being from iowa what would a guy like tim dwights time be? i know he ran low 4's but iono exact. second thought could anyone give me a website that has 40 times listred? that would help if not just those two then thnx and GO FINZ i dont care if its joey pepp or lemon in there i just want to go atleast 3-5 by our bye. id be really happy at 4-4 but id take 3-5 LETS GO FINZ

I think he ran in the 4.7 range......

I like Welker too, but he's quicker than he is fast.

Welker may not be fast, but he's quick and has the heart & courage to take passes in the middle knowing he's going to be hit hard, and hangs on to the ball. He has all the intangibles going for him.

Not a very good set of speed and agility times at all, really.

He ran a 4.61 to 4.65, he jumped only 30 inches, he broad jumped only 9'5", and weighed in at 5'9" and 195 pounds. He's probably lost weight since then because to me he looks 185 nowadays.

On the bright side, he had a 4.01 second shuttle time and 7.09 second cone...both of which are decent.

Boy you know 5'9" and 195 pounds is pretty thick. No wonder he looks faster than all that now...losing 10 pounds probably gave him a bit more speed than he showed at his pre-draft workout.

Wasn't Anquan Boldin pretty pedestrian as well in the combine?

Oh yeah most definitely. Boldin had the worst Combine performance I've seen from any receiver that ended up being dominant...no exceptions. And keep in mind I don't just track the 40...I track everything.

But like I said, I'm looking at Welker's weight measurement at 195-196 pounds and I'm thinking wow...that's heavy for him. He's probably 180 right now. He's listed 185 but wouldn't be surprised if that is 5 pounds heavy.

When a short guy like that goes from 195 down to 180...he can gain a lot of speed. So, where he ran a 4.61 before, he might run a 4.51 now. Where he had a 30 inch vertical and 9'5" broad jump before, he might jump 35 inches and 9'10" now. His shuttle time might break below 3.90 seconds now, especially with how quick he is on the field, and his cone drill might be in the 6.90 range.

Combined with the way he out-thinks defenders, that may be enough to make him a good NFL receiver even at 5'9" and 185 pounds. Which, btw, Deion Branch is 5'9" and 193.

Welker slips tackles better than any returner I've ever seen. Routinely, 3 or 4defenders will get a hand on Welker without getting ahold of him

Exactly, Mark clayton was only 5'9 and Mark duper was only 5'7, and look what they were able to accomplish.:dolphins:

I fully agree CK, especially in the first year when the body is still used to carrying a heavier load. I used to work at MuscleTech and we read studies on this stuff all the time. It's like having a V12 engine in a miata. Eventually the body adapts, though, and because you really aren't carrying as much weight, your disproportionate expplosive strength declines a bit. But, even at that declined level, you would STILL maintain more speed at the lighter weight than the original weight. The absolute best, though, is that first few months to year when the muscles are still equipped to push a heavier body and have only a light one to move.

Great example was Ricky Williams when he arrived here and had dropped weight from his New Orleans playing weight. he had SO much explosion. The next year his explosion wasn't quite the same as his muscle strength had adapted to his lighter frame. He was still faster than when he was heavier, but not CRAZY explosive. But boy oh boy, that first year after a muscular athlete with speed sheds weight, he can FLY.

I'm guessing Wes dropped his weight awhile ago though, but still, his quickness and speed definitely look good. Not sure they are better than the 4.6 range though. Maybe 4.5 at best. Maybe.

Welker is not that fast but he makes up for it with great instinctiveness, vision and strength.

Those drills are overrated, it only matters what they do on the field.

Excellent point. Makes you wonder if the trainers could use all that somehow. Heh, put some body weights on the guys during practice and then take the weights off during games. Visions of "Unleashed" lol.

Yep, only guy I would put over him in that department is Dante Hall.
