I see these comments from people about him having to improve in the 4th Q- okay, that's probably true of almost every quarterback in the league- something they can improve on.

Has anyone actually analyzed the Dolphin O performance last year? My impression is that when we needed a late score, or a come from behind after trailing in 3rd, that Tannehill delivered and drove the team and got the score a good % of time, only for the D to lose it or for some other player to not make a play.

Tannehill was fairly clutch at end of both halves. I'd like to see some real analysis of 4th Q drives (So I don't have to do it MYSELF )

Tannehill is fine at coming from behind. It's when he has a lead that he struggles at sealing a win.

Bad game management was mostly to blame in those close nail-biter games. The defense didn't perform great, but they also weren't put in the best position to sometimes either and some coaching decisions affected that. I'm not worried about Ryan's clutch performance abilities.

our defense is not going play good every week. our offense need step up and help them out like good teams do. when we start doing that we will be good team.. it time for offense to take lead on this team and score some point like 23 game.

we were averaging 24.2 points/game on offense last season. just saying

He, or the HC and play calling.. More times than not it's the latter

I agree with this. I am one of the biggest Tannehill fans here, but because of how the coaching staff decided to handle 4th quarters, the mentality seemed to trickle down to Tannehill, and he was not as aggressive late in the 4th as was in the first 3 quarters.

I believe the Coaching staff for the most part wanted to be aggressive for the 1st 3 1/2 quarters, get the lead and hand it to the defense to win it, but because I am sure they told Tannehill again and again that late in the 4th his job was not so much to win it, but to make sure not to lose it, when it fell on Tannehill to seal the game by scoring again or running out the clock, Tannehill's main thoughts were to make sure not to turn it over.

Running the ball late in a game with a lead is obviously the thing that needs to be done, but the coaching staff needs to stop having such a conservative mindset late in games, and be more aggressive...yes be smart, but don't expect the defense to win it for you.

If the defense has to win most of the games for you late, you are not doing a good job coaching.

would really be nice to have a competent running game to take some pressure off tannehill in the 4th. we couldnt run at all when it mattered most in games such as det, gb, den when we had the lead in the 4th.

If you are going just by stats, Tannehill was at his worse in the 4th quarter.

59.8 completion percentage. 6.36 yards per completion. 20 sacks and a passer rating of 80.9.

If you go by stats it was bad. However, situational football being what it was last year circumstances made it difficult to succeed in the 4th for this team. Mainly the O-line on offense...If I remember correctly Lamar Miller also got worse as the game went on (as teams adjusted to the zone read throughout the game and the O-line became less effective because they're just not very good). So we couldn't run the ball effectively in the 4th to work the clock, could pass block effectively to allow Tannehill to sustain drives in the 4th and work the clock and the play calling was also suspect in the 4th many times cause of indecisiveness by the coach. It was a bad trifecta of issues...all of which would probably be better if the O-line gave the coach, RB and QB some confidence to be able to execute when it counts the most. That's just my opinion.

The Dolphins were tied with Washington for 27th in 1st quarter scoring at 3.3 points per game.

The Dolphins were tied for 14th with Cincinnati in 2nd quarter scoring at 6.8 points per game.

The Dolphins were 1st in the NFL in 3rd quarter scoring at 8.6 points per game.

The Dolphins were 22nd in the NFL in 4th quarter scoring at 5.6 points per game.

The 4th quarter scoring can be a little misleading because there were a couple of games where the offense was shut down because of the huge lead we had going into the that quarter. Oakland and San Diego are the first that comes to mind.

exactly. if you have no confidence in your pass protection holding up, calling plays to preserve a win at the end of the game becomes extremely limited.

I know we all have recurring visions of tannehill dropping back against buffalo, the d-lineman beating our o-line, hitting tannehill, knocking the ball loose and recovering it, effectively losing that game.

if you can't pass protect when you have a lead and need to keep driving to preserve the win, you ain't throwing much, and if you are you are taking a huge chance of sacks and turnovers.

As bad as the O-line was at times last year, I think there were things we could have done on offense that would have alleviate some pressure on them with formations and/or personnel. We could have use the jumbo package with an extra linemen or two or more three tight end sets.
