Viva la resistance!!!
No Martin didn't create this but he did expose it.
If it wasn't for Ritchie it never would have happened, he created it, whatever 'it' is.
Martin may be taking advantage of the situation for his own benefit that no own really knows for sure as it is pure speculation on owns part at this point.
Take it back a step further... RI came here with a well known history. Ireland had to have known that. Philbin created a situation where he allowed the players to put RI in a leadership position. Philbin has been around a while. He had to have known RI's history as well. Ireland didn't address the balance needed in personnel where you have some guys with a bit of common sense and leadership qualities to be the counterbalance to RI. Philbin created a locker room system where the selection of team leaders was out of his control. RI was allowed to assume a role in which, given his history, he would predictably fail.
Now granted, I don't like the schmuck. I never was on board with the signing. I'm not saying that we need to have a team of angels, but clearly RI eventually became a problem at every place he's played. But I blame RI a little less than I do Ireland and Philbin for putting him in a position where this was bound to happen.
In another thread, someone mentioned the parable, The Scorpion and the Frog. It's certainly fitting in this case...
The Scorpion and the Frog
A scorpion and a frog meet on the bank of a stream and the
scorpion asks the frog to carry him across on its back. The
frog asks, "How do I know you won't sting me?" The scorpion
says, "Because if I do, I will die too."
The frog is satisfied, and they set out, but in midstream,
the scorpion stings the frog. The frog feels the onset of
paralysis and starts to sink, knowing they both will drown,
but has just enough time to gasp "Why?"
Replies the scorpion: "Its my nature..."
