Cowboys | Offered premium pick before trade deadline
Wed, 21 Oct 2009 17:11:17 -0700
Calvin Watkins, of ESPNDallas.com, reports Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones turned down a trade offer for one of the team's young players before the trade deadline Tuesday, Oct. 20. Jones did not name any team or player involved, but he spoke directly to a club regarding a possible transaction. Jones said, "We had a significant offer for a key player that we turned down, and turned down in getting in more extended dialogue for." He added, "We could have probably made a 'now' impact and just bolstered a position, and significantly, and obviously we would have had a takeaway since it's a young player for the future. By the same token, and I'm talking about the type of consideration, first- or second-round type consideration, but the bottom line is this: Had I not thought that we needed that player right now as opposed to pushing forward in consideration for picks in the future, then I would have taken the pick option on it rather than the player."

The Dolphins...or should I say Parcells is known to really like Miles Austin...a N.J. receiver...I wonder if the Dolphins was the team...and Austin was the Player?

I mean whats not to like...6'3" 214....runs 4.4 and a 40 inch vertical.

Possibly but perhaps someone called about Tashard Choice and we weren't involved at all.

I guess we will never know.

There could be 31 other teams and roughly 10 different players involved.

We'll never know. I herd this one interview with some GM saying that most people would never believe some of the trades that almost were.

Glad we didn't go after Tashard... Can you imagine having to listen to that cat do interviews? His youtube channel is comical.

It really sucks that teams don't reveal this kind of info after the fact. I understand it's not smart to reveal the info at the time, but after the deadline it would be nice to know who was trying to do what.

When Jerry Jones is involved, the story usually trickles out in public, the man has a BIG mouth

Austin has had one big game so far as this was his FIRST start. I doubt that would call for a 1st round or 2nd pick as it was against the Chiefs as well.

trading for a wr is fine but i am glad it wasnt T.O. can you imagine his mindset right now ? I am sad to know that T.O.hasnt blown up yet.
