Very good punt returner, great 3rd wide receiver, but he is a TERRIBLE kick returner. I know there are some on this board who won't be very receptive to a Welker criticism, but it's the truth; He doesn't have the speed to return kicks. His quickness is well suited for PR's, and allows him to get open as a 3rd WR, but a kick returner needs speed to hit a crease for the split second it's open....Welker doesn't have that speed and it's pretty clear IMO. It seems like a great return by him when he gets the ball to the 30. We need to put someone back there with some speed.

As for pressing issues on this team I would rate this almost dead last. His kick returns have not cost us games.

I don't think it helps this dreadful offense to be starting with horrible field position repeatedly following the other teams' scores. I just know that, due to his lack of speed, he will never be a good kick returner. As I said before, his quickness is well-suited to return punts and get open on passing routes, but a kick returner must have speed to get through the creases when they open. He doesn't have the required speed, and it shows; I haven't even looked at the stats, but I would wager that we are bottom 5 in KR average.

His fumbles on punt returns scare me a bit not sure if he's just trying to do too much or what.

Wes is the only bright spot on offense right now and a top 3 punt returner in the NFL.

You're right, but that has nothing to do with my point about him as our KR.

I know, lol I just looked at that and realized how dumb my post was. I don't know how I feel about Wes returning kickoffs. I thought Kelly Campbell would've been a good fit for that.

I know he was middle of the pack last year and middle of the pack before today's game, but yeah his KRs were pretty lousy today.

You're a real sleuth, Nice work!

was it wes' fault that we had to start the last drive from the 10? i think the clipping call had a little bit to do with it.

sure just averaging 26 a kick return is just plain bad
should this guy even be mentioned with the word kickoff?
how about penalties
how about coaching
how about decisions
three big reasons why we have not been winning games our teams discipline is just plain bad
nick better get it together, or i don't see this one ending very hapily

It's true, with his increased role as a wide receiver, his production as a KR has dropped. Don't we have any fast guys we can try? How 'bout jason Allen. he ran a 4.3 at the combine and my goodness, he should have fresh legs!
