Was there ever an official comment on why management felt it was a good trade. Why did we do it? (not looking for speculation - wondering what the real thinking was)

wow. this again?

He was a restricted FA with a 2nd round tender. NE signed him to a poison pill offer sheet that if he ever played more than 2 games in the state of Florida, some ridiculous bonus would kick that no team could ever pay. WE COULD NOT HAVE POSSIBLY MATCHED THE CONTRACT. Not wanting bad blood, NE offered an additional 7th.

Welker's a decent wr in a GREAT situation. Alot of slot guys could've caught 100+ underneath passes with moss drawing coverage away from the line of scrimmage.

Can we please stop beating this dead horse? Please? Geez. Welker would not have caught 100 balls on last years Dolphin team, and we got a Center tha made the all-rookie team & FO office LOVES.

I care. Simply wondering why management liked the deal, so it is obvious you don't know. I thought someone might have heard the official line. I don't care about anyone speculation or how he did. We all know that.

Anyone know?

I guess that is the answer then?
It would be interesting to know why we didn't give him an extension he seemed great when with the dolphins. It didn't just start when he went to the pats.

Because welker sucks!!! It's like getting a second round pick for Hagan. Would you do that? I think everyone would. THe pros and cons of that trade are uneven. I think we made out on that, and a future pro bowl center. Put me in the slot for NE and I'll catch 100 plus balls from Brady!

Because Satele >>>>>>> Welker...

Welker did really nothing good for us

If Satele ends up being a Pro Bowl center the trade would have been well worth it but the one thing that screwed that whole situation into the ground was Nick Saban. First off he didn't even think about giving Welker an extension because he was going to Alabama and didn't even think about the next season or building the team any further. SECondly, he's the ******* who called Bill Bellicheck and told him "Wes Welker is my best player and do whatever it takes to get him". Than the idiots in charge thought hey let's send one of our young talented players to a division rival who is already good and make them better so it's harder on us. Thus drafting a kick returner named Ted Ginn to replace him.

Wes Welker is somewhere between a Dedric Ward and an OJ McDuffie.

And I'm guessing more the former than the latter. We got Samson Satele for him. We should be happy about that.

I wish caring didn't hurt so much!

Don't hurt the ones you love..LOL:beer1:

Bottom line is Wes Welker is a product of the system.
He is/was an Average WR at best. He just fit into the past system.
I think I could have had about 25 to 30 receptions last year in that system....and I am 42 years old!
Put him back on the fins last year and he has around 45 receptions.
Getting a 2 and a 7 ( I think) for Wes was a great trade for US. It happened to be a GREAT trade for the pats also....

Restricted Free Agent with a 2nd round tender.
He was only traded due to a poison pill and the dirty way the pats due work.
