I'd say yes because we don't have an alternative on punt returns

Ok guys...I just want people's honest opinion on if Wes Welker does make the team this year. I have to say, I'm a little biased on his behalf because I really like this player. If anyone would like to share what their thoughts are on him making the team this season or if he doesn't, then who would you favor if you aren't favoring him right now?

I'm bringing this up primarily because I read the article in the Palm Beach Post this morning that said Welker is competing for 2 or 3 spots on the roster and others are showing signs of potential as well...albeit Campbell, Vick, Russell, etc.

if Saban thinks he's our best option, i say by all means. if vick or some other young guy can do all the same things and then some, then he should return.

He is a proven performer and I find it hard to let go of him. He is one of those guys that excels at game time. I don't recall much talk about him last preseason and he was waived, but put him on the field and he overachieves. I know other guys are supposedly looking better, but I find it hard to let him go. He is a quicker Wayne Chrebet that returns punts. I think the other players get more attention because the staff needs to evaluate them more.

But we'll see.

welker was all we had to cheer for in the 4-12 season....he continues to amaze when considering his size, he rules.

He's a good option to have on 3rd and short passing situations. He knows how to get open and he's never afraid to go through the middle. You gotta love players like him who have more heart than half of the other guys that are more athletic.

YES!!

Wes is a team player that works hard. He has a determination that you would want in every player. His versatility is important as well.

I dont think its fair to judge him on his receiving skills with his performance from Gus. Gus was not accurate enough with Wes and I think part of that is due to Wes's size. Although Kelly may have some work for Wes on this front.

If Wes continues the same way as he did last year then I do not see Wes being cut. I do not see Wes losing his job to Marcus and Vick is doing the same things as Wes. On reputation and dedication alone, Wes wins that one. Yes, look at that player now and how he performs but Wes is a class act on and off the field.

Can Kelly do punt returns? With what has been said about Kelly thus far, Wes may be in jeopardy for a reciever slot. This is contigent upon the amount of recievers we keep though.

Can Devin take a spot from Wes? I HIGHLY doubt it but you never know.

If we keep 6 reveivers than I do not see Wes not being here. If we keep 5 then it just may be tough. But he may just be kept for ST play.

I forgot who it was but it was either Russell, Murhpy or Davis but a journalist has said that he was catching EVERYTHING and if he continues playing like this that it would be hard for him not to make the team. It is only the first couple of days for TC but hey.

All I know is, Im all for Wes on this team so let Saban know that.

I'd say yes. He was one of the few WR's we have had in the past couple of years that has not been afraid to go over the middle and he has come up with the big play when we it is needed, besides he is to versatile to just cut. The only way he is leaving is through a trade.

I don't think he's even on the bubble.

He's close to a sure thing to make the team, in my opinion.

I think the reporters are barking up the wrong tree here. Wes is about as safe on this team as...David Bowens, or someone like that.

You know who Wes Welker's backup punt returner is? Marty Booker. Raise your hand if you're confident about THAT situation, lol.

Kelly Campbell's never returned a punt in the NFL. I think they're working Marcus Vick out at PRs but not often and he's a work in progress anyway.

And as a receiver, Saban has acknowledged that Welker is a gifted slot receiver.

Saban hasn't been terribly vocal about Welker, but when he has been I think you can tell he's in the boat with the veterans that just are not likely to be cut. He's a hard worker and has unbelievable presence of mind. You know how Kevin Carter says that the Rams didn't win a championship because of Marshall Faulk or Isaac Bruce, Torry Holt...they won it because of the other guys stepping up and making the right plays at the right time, doing the right thing, etc. Welker's that guy. He's that guy that makes the right play at the right time.

Absolutely Yes...

I think that Wes is being challenged for his spot this year by Vick especially. But, you can also tell that he KNOWS that his job is up for grabs and he's all business on the field at camp. I watched him in the end zone during special teams -- him and Vick stay clear from each other. Vick came at one point and stood next to him and then Saban came over and had some conversation with Wes... he was just very focused.

The only players I saw him engaged in any convo with was Daunte and Sammy Morris.

Anyway, I think Saban really likes him and I do feel like he and Daniels are his little pets in terms of people he really wants to nurture and see succeed.

Welker makes the team, no doubt. Fan Favorite.

Welker is definitely one of those "150%" guys on the field, not to mention he was probably our most consistent receiver on the field last year. Also, a very good slot receiver and I think he stays on as 3rd but likely 4th receiver option.

So... YES

He will make it he did alot of good things last year..
