i know this sounds weird but i heard this from somone else on finheaven, i think it sounds great, he definatly has the speed and toughness all saban has to do is teach him the right technique, i just think we should try it, he isn't physically capable of being a great wide reciever but has all the tools for a saftey. i think he works so hard that he could achive anything, this kid has heart and it wouldn't be that hard for him 2 transition, he has 2 read where the ball goes to return punts and kicks, he just needs to learn how to tackle and learn to read reciving routes which will also be easy since he is a reciever and knows a recievers tendencies.

i say this training camp line him up as a free saftey and see how he can do if he is a better reciever then hey it dosn't hurt to try

easy there cluck-a-luck, wes isn't gonna tackle anybody soon, and he's too small to be a safety :cooldude:

lol too small to be a saftey and there isnt that much difference from gettin laid out on a kick return and just throwin your body out to stop someone, hes tough i think he could do it

I dunno guys look at the Rams Mike Furrey he converted pretty well

No way!!! In fact, he needs to be replaced as KR too. He can keep his PR duties, but I think we need to upgrade KR.

I'm not even gonna bother replying to this.

damn

You need to understand that being a safety takes more than speed or toughness (as in being able to get up after being hit)

Welker has the heart and speed but not the size to play the position.

If a Safety by the name of Tony Bua, who I believe is roughly the same size as Welker couldn't cut it in Saban's Defense, how can Wes?

By the way, I realize that in the days of text messages & IMs, people are looking to shorten words & phrases the best they can, but in this type of forum, I'm just curious, how lazy is an individual who short-cuts "to" to 2? Does the one (or better yet 1) keystroke save that much time or make life any easier? Then to top it all off, you actually waste one of your gained keystrokes by typing "to" later on in the same sentence.....

Geez, too bad we can't make a LB out of RM ?? Look, Welker is too small for safety, may not be tough enough and probably hasn't the instincts or at least to convert him, it would take too long for the instincts of a safety to be acquired. He is a good return guy and has heart, but at this point in his career, you just don't change a guys position. He is just not enough of an athlete to make a change of position successfully...He isn't that good of a WR. Lets just draft a safety to work into the system that SAban has installed...don't go changing people just to make changes...

I think he should play left tackle...he would never get beat by the speed rush. He "just" needs to learn how to block.

Thanks for this thread. He "just needs to learn how to tackle" was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.

Nah. In the NFL you gotta be very gifted to begin with. Wes Welker is that exception. He isnt physically gifted. He would be a great HS saftey, but in the NFL, or even a big NCAA School he wouldnt ever play. He is a speical WR who knows the position, but thats all he will ever be imo.
