First off, let me say that despite the swoon of the last 2 games, I feel like Philbin did a remarkable job keeping this team unified and in the playoff hunt under circumstances and distractions that were pretty much unprecedented. I don't think he should get a pass on everything, but I also don't think he should be fired.

The Dolphin fans that are clamoring for a full rebuild have forgotten recent history:

- Everbody was certain that the game had passed Shula by, and knew that Jimmy Johnson was there to be had. They got their wish and it didn't work.

-JJ then bolts Miami and leaves us in utter chaos. Thus, the Wanny era fails miserably, we blow it up again.

-Miami makes the biggest splash in years by landing Saban. It doesn't work.

-Cam Cameron. Enough said.

-Miami hires Parcells, Ireland, and Sporano. It doesn't work.

-Miami hires Philbin. After a two year record of 15-17, we want to blow it up again.

I get get where fans are upset and why 15-17 isn't good enough but I think the real culprit here is Jeff Ireland. His inability to address the Oline during his spending spree is reason #1 that we are in this position. #2 on the culprit list is Mike Sherman. He absolutely has to go. I'm still of the belief that Philbin can lead and be an HC. Get a competent GM on board who believes in Philbin and remake the offensive staff. It's the right thing to do.

After "sure fire" hires like Parcells and Saban blew up in our faces, there is no guarantee that that starting from scratch is going to do anything but continue the cycle.

I bet Ken Wisenhunt doesn't address his players while reading from index cards.

So because full rebuilds have gone bad before, we should never go for a full rebuild?

You should always be willing to gamble that you can fix a bad situation. Otherwise, you'd always be stuck with bad situations.

Please show me when we have done a complete "rebuild" not just each new regime trying to "patch it" thinking we are close?

Failure to aspire to greatness due to past failure, is failure.

Why can't people understand this?

i get your point, but if Philbin is honestly fighting for Sherman's job as the reports say, then he is CLUELESS. Another year won't matter.

..and a competent GM isn't going to believe in Philbin if this tool is standing up for Sherman.

Get Brian Xanders for GM. He is not an overbearing GM, will work colaboratively with coaches, he is not a self proclaimed draft guru mad maniac protective of his little candy store, he is not an arsclown, and he knows talent., he is intellectually honest, pure and simple.

We kept continuity with Sparano for 5 years and that didnt work either. All your post really means is we just havent hired any good coaches... Also the fact that Philbin is sticking up for Sherman tells us all that he is also not a good HC in any sense of the meaning.

If Philbin is hitching his wagon to Sherman, all bets are off. However all we have to go on is the hear say that trickles out from "sources". However, that doesn't stop Dolphin fans from immediately treating that info as if it were gospel.

It's a slippery slope. Some say don't be afraid to blow it up just because of past failures. Problem is, it's mighty easy to live by that theory and in a blink of an eye, you're a franchise that's notorious for blowing through coaches, making it that much harder to convince quality coaches to take a chance on Miami.

At this point nothing will excite me. I've seen too many new regimes crash and burn for this team. Conversely, if Sherman, Ireland, and Philbin are all back next year, I expect more of the same. I just happen to think that of the 3, Philbin is the most solid and I am desperate for this orginization to show some semblance of stability.

Im on the fence with Philbin. I dont' think he brings much of anything to the team in terms of strategic advantage or motivation, so I fine with him being fired.

You should always be willing to gamble that you can fix a bad situation. Otherwise, you'd always be stuck with bad situations.

You also need to know when to hold them, and when to fold them...continue to fold them, and winning will not happen much if at all.

This I do agree with, it is obvious that Sherman is not cutting it, and more specifically his son in law as the QB coach is idiotic, if Philbin is fighting for them, this does fall on him. Miami does need a better O-coordinator, better QB coach, and O-line coach.

Philbin is in a lose lose situation. If he throws Sherman under the bus then his players see him as a non loyal coach. Walace already came out and defended Sherman. He did jot have to. If he fights for Sherman the fan base thinks he is an idiot. Give this regime a few years to see what they can do. 2 is not enough.
