I can't help but think about how much a year difference makes.

Last year we were talking about the Dolphins finishing off the season with 6 straight wins, and having the momentum carry into 2006 season. We were considered a Super Bowl contender. Now I can't help but notice all of these rankings (which mean close to nothing) we have the 29th ranked tight ends, offensive line, trent green is ranked in the bottom half of quaterbacks, WR's and RB's are not highly rated either.

I don't know about you guys, I don't let these rankings mean too much to me, I can't help but sit here and drool over how good our defense should be, our secondary/OL scare me a little, but I like coming into this season, as an underdog. This team finally seems to be heading in the right direction w/ Cameron our new Offensive minded coach, a nice draft that gives us something on offense we haven't had in quite some time, and that's speed ( and a PR/KR, that could give us good field position and take a load off the offense, we recieved some big big guys to help depth on the OL from hawaii, Trent Green is an upgrade from Culpepper, and a massive FB who will pave some holes and break some facemasks. I'd say he's an upgrade from Darien Barnes.

I can't wait for Training Camp, thought i'd start this thread, and try to have people look on the bright side!

LETS GO DOLPHINS! :bdh:

bro the ranking system is all bull some of us on this board know more than those shmucks on tv acting like they know what the hell their talking about. i like to here stuff from real scouts that know how to evaluate players, coaches, and front offices instead of the so called "experts" who probably have never played a down of football in their lives. I just can't wait for training camp so we can see what this team really has to offer.

I am very excited about the upcoming season. Of course that pads aren't on and we have yet to play any games so I am excited every year at this time. The difference, for me at least, is that Cam came in with a plan and seems to have gotten who he wants and put people where he thinks they can help the team the most. Yeah the O-line is a question mark, as is the secondary, but at least he has told everyone on the line where they will be playing (barring injuries) and they can use training camp and preseason to gel together without alot of shifting around. My optimism feels "real" and justified with these changes and the new offense we have. Hopefully, it all translates into a sucessfull improvement of the team as a whole. Playoffs? Hopefully, late in December this board will be filled with people talking playoffs!!!!

The only thing that concerns me is the age of some of our key players. I know we all love Zach and Jason, but they have alot of years under their belts. Time catches up to a football player pretty fast. We also have a 37 year old qb. Can they hold it together injury free ? I'm not so sure. One the brirght side we do have an infusion of youth and speed. The offensive line needs to improve greatly, and then we may be able to surprise this year. This team has found endless ways to disappoint it's fan base in recent years. HOPEFULLY, this year we will do the opposite. Regardless, I got the NFL package and will watch every second of every game all the way into deep January.

Media doesnt know what we are bringing to the show this season purely because of new players, new O-Line, new QB and new coaches and new attitudes and new playbook. We dont know what weve got so the Press who mostly dont follow the Fins wont either. Its all guess work on their behalf. At least we can be constructive and positive.

You're right. It's the same as last year with the Saints. New coach, new QB, etc...no one knew they were capable of doing what they did. No real sports journalist followed them and gave them credit for being able to win in the fashion they did and go to the playoffs.

Miami very well could be the same way this year. We have MOST of the parts, though the O-line is the question mark. But, like William Wallace says, we could make that our strength. What do you mean, you say?

Most teams also know that our O-line is somewhat questionable. We can use some football judo on defenses who think blitzing is their key to success. It is in fact, a lure. With our speed, we can counter blitzes with dump-offs to Booker, Martin, or Brown, while Schlesinger picks up the blitz. As long as we have speed in the game, I think defenses will be less apt to blitz than in the past. Our speed, and the threat of speed, will keep defenses honest. That certainly makes our line look better than it needs to be...

Out.

No one is going to look forward to playing us. We are always a tough opponent, even when we went 4-12. This team will surprise... mark my words.

Pre-season ranking are almost meaningless. I've kept track of power ratings changes week-to-week for the last couple years from SI and FoxSports websites. It's almost laughable when you look at the difference between the 1st week and last.
The biggest difference I see between this year and last at this time is the hype. Last year all the hype was on how great the Dolphins would be and it was real easy to buy into. This year, it's just the opposite. There is no hype. The 'all-knowing' analysts are predicting doom and destruction for the Phins. Despite all that, I still get a genuine feeling that they will have a good year. Cam is making some great moves and is well on the way to getting the franchise headed back towards greatness.

I think one very important aspect that everyone is overlooking is the players' attitudes. This year, unlike last year, everyone seems way more upbeat. They act like they Enjoy playing again! I think Cam has had a calming, positive effect on them and they are again able to relax and play football again instead of being stressed if the Coach is going to lose it or not. Believe it or not, if you don't have a dictator screaming at your every move it makes it much easier to actually do your job.

i think we have a good chance of getting to the playoffs alot of teams will look right through the dolphins and not pay any attion to them

I hear all the talk. Now Fins so me the WALK. I'm a lifer not going to change. The Fins have changed for the best hopefully. Go FINS!:cooldude:
