What a difference in the way things have been handled regarding Ricky and Dan when the new coach was brought in.

When Wanny was brought in he kept refering to Dan's future as the Danny thing, he wouldn't acknowledge one way or the other what their intentions were with Dan, finally forcing him to retire. Even if they felt that Dan couldn't help them win, I feel he deserved better treatment then what he was given.

Now Saban comes in and you have a player that quit on his team and he is told immediatly that the team would welcome him back.

Strange how things work out.

What do you think Dan could have done? He was absolutely AWFUL the last two years. It was time for him to go.

Two different scenarios buddy.

Oh I agree it was time for Dan to leave, but I also think the way he left, all but thrown out of the door, was an embarassment.

The point made was how Dan was treated, not whether his skills had or had not diminished. However, a Marino at 75% was better than an Ears at 100%...

I agree that Wanny handled many things wrongly. It was the beginning of his (and our) downfall...

When you think about the way Dan was treated and the way he was forced out I could only wish that it was like John Elway and the way Brett is going to leave. Look at the way Green Bay is treating Brett!!!! No pressure what so ever to retire or being forced out. That's the way a player that gives your team and city 17 years of greatness [font=&quot]deserves. Damn...the guy still wanted to play football.

I think that Marino could have had success with RW in the backfield. He still had a better arm than Fiedler, however, he had absolutely no mobility. The bone spur in his neck always had the potential to flare up and affect his arm strength again. I wouldn't have minded Marino playing a relief pitcher's role a la Don Strock. But, I don't think his ego could handle it.

:shakeno: An AWFUL Dan Marino is still better then most qb's.U should be banned for talking about Dan like that.:jk:

That's why I said even if they felt who couldn't help, my point was the way it was handled sucked. It wasn't as if they said sorry Dan we are gonig to have to let you go, they just left it out there and more or less forced him into retirement.

It would have been interesting if Dan had accepted the offer to play in Minnesota that season instead of retiring, I think there would have been a major backlash by the fans. Luckily Dan did the right and classy thing and retired a Fin.

I just felt it should have been handled differently one way or another.

Poor dan at least he has a sense of humour about missing out on a title, with his role in Little Nicky and Ace Ventura.

I got ya man, and I got your drift originally, but how would saying, "Sorry Dan, we're going to have to let you go" be better than telling him (so the story goes) "We're going to go a different direction and you need to think about what you're going to do"? I don't see how that is any worse than telling him he's being cut.
