Of all the picks and people we passed on, Aaron Rodgers is the one who keeps making me shake my head. Matty Ice (or Matty Melt lately) can't carry this guys jock strap. Ryan is an average run of the mill QB who reminds me a lot of Sanchez in that his team gets to the playoffs but he can't deliver. Rodgers has every attribute you could want in a QB and can beat you with his arm, his leg, and his mind. I can't beleive how far he fell in the first, but the same thing happened to Dan the Man.

Rodgers also has an incredible amount of talent around him on the offensive and defensive end. After the Falcons went up 14-0 tonight the defense shut down the Falcons and allowed Rodgers the opportunity to come back. I think their coaches do a great job, and even when they lose their Offensive Tackles they have backups they can plug in.

Yeah Rodgers is just playing out of his mind these days. His performance against Atlanta in the playoffs last year and in the second half of tonight's game was just jaw-dropping. The pinpoint accuracy, the mobility, and the decision making makes him a very dangerous qb. Favre hates the kid because he knows when it's all said and done Rodgers will go down as the greatest qb in Green Bay history. Maybe we can draft Luck,Jones,Barkley, or Griffin and have our own franchise qb so we won't have to be envious of other teams anymore lol.

Rodgers was still running for his life a lot and made plays that initially got them back in it. It is amazing how play from one side of the ball can effect the other.

Andrew Luck is the same way. He doesn't force bad throws and when there is nothing there he has the mobility to prevent being sacked and he can usually run out of bounds or just throw it away. I think the Packers were smart to bring Rodgers along slowly and have him learn the system behind Favre. Too many young QB's get thrown in before they are ready and they usually don't last long. I just hope we can get a guy who can be developed into a franchise QB.

well u are right about that. we focus an awful lot on ryan while ignoring aaron rodgers. the fact is both were huge blunders. and both front offices failed at the most simple task - identifying the quarterback as THE MOST IMPORTANT POSITION ON THE TEAM BY FAR, AND SHOULD BE LEADER OF THE ENTIRE TEAM. the evidence goes back AT LEAST to the 1940's. i dont understand why it took till the 2011 draft to figure it out.

the sad thing is aaron rodgers was projected to goto miami i that draft and he was available. our own mike Nolan past him over in favor of alex smith essentially because he had a mind of his own (ill have to find the article) pretty sure "mind of his own" goes hand and in hand with leadership. also pretty sure this list scared teams » University of California head coach Jeff Tedford has coached six quarterbacks drafted in the first round: Aaron Rodgers, Joey Harrington, Akili Smith, Kyle Boller, David Carr and Trent Dilfer.

since leadership, and mind are the MOST CRITICAL traits to evaluate when it comes to drafting a quarterback (i STILL dont get WHY teams dont understand this), its kinda funny that teams seemingly were scared of tedfords guys. green bay benefitted by aarons slide, and miami continues to this day to live in quarterback hell, because as a franchise we continue to ignore the fact that quarterbacks win games - plain and simple. a franchise blessed with bob griese, and dan marino failed to understand that quarterbacks WIN GAMES in the NFL for 15 years!!!! outrageous!!

perhaps ross gets it and will mandate our search FINALLY

its NOT amazing at all. it should be common sense. but its ALWAYS ignored when it comes to discussing what teams in history have great offenses or great defenses etc. or who is leading the league in offense or defense. this NEVER comes up - how good the team actually is on the other side of the ball. it is a HUGE factor

Matt Ryan > Sanchez by a lot too.

Sanchez 8TDs 5 ints 1171 yards QB rating 80.4 team is 2-3
Ryan 7 TDs 6 Ints 1302 yards QB rating 79.9 team is 2-3

Ryan is a Media Sweetheart who is overrated. He isn't a bad QB, but not even in the same cat as Rodgers, Manning, Brees, Brady, or even the next tier like Phillip Rivers.

good post btw. and i agree with you 100%. u want to talk about media darling tho? sanchez is it. and hes been awful in his career outside of a couple games. i didnt watch tonights game. but i will say every time i watch matt ryan the stats just dont tell the story. and i dont get it, but its true. IMO he isnt with the QBs you mentioned and ill give you that. but there arent many guys outside of those guys that you can say are above him. the guys is clutch on 3rd down and when it matters when ive seen him. and im not a falcons fan so i dont see enough of him. but ive seen maybe 6 games, and hes been more impressive than his stats in those games. not sure how to explain this, because IMO thats not something that should hold up over time

im not a huge fan of QBR - just saying. its not transparent enough. BUT, it is MUCH better than judging a quarterback by his "quarterback rating". matt ryan hasnt been much better than average (50) this season coming into this weeks game

Nobody said a peep about Rodgers 3 years ago.

And now Matty Ice is over-rated.

This forum, it's a silly place.

of course. because rodgers wasnt playing. but there was plenty said prior to that draft about aaron rodgers. matty ice being overrated is a matter of perspective. he probably gets a little more love than is actually deserved, BUT that doesnt take away from how well he plays the position. you want to talk aboput over-rated??? look no further than sanchez

But he was playing.

The Packers were 6-10 the 2008 season with Rodgers and nobody said a word about how we really missed out on the greatest QB of all time. 2009 the Packers were 11-5 but all you heard about was Ryan. Rodgers was viewed as a good QB but maybe not good enough to take the Packers all the way. A top 10 QB, not a top 5 or #1 like he is now.

2010, the Packers win the SuperBowl and Rodgers elevates his game and now everybody is living in revisionist history land, Not drafting Rodgers was a huge mistake blah blah blah... Where were these opinions last season when the Packers started off looking like crap and even lost to the Dolphins.

I'm just poking the Rodgers bandwagon fans with a pointy stick 'cus it's an internet forum and I can.
