What a real QB looks like

If anyone who's watched any of the last several years Atlanta and GB playoff games (where even in losses, AR averaged 38pts/game), -and especially those recent head to head Atl/GB games is upset about the 08 Parcells #1 pick, they should be totally beside themselves over Saban's 05 #2 pick!

I love Rodgers, he's the complete QB, especially from a mental standpoint that most, including Favre aren't or will probably never be. I'm happy for his development because I do hate the Interception Queen, his sticking around to break Dan's records, his yearly retirement, "please beg me" type drama and the way he tried to come back and screw his team. That has a lot to do with it, and is one of the reasons why I've been rooting for Rodgers since The Diva immediately declared he wasn't there to mentor anyone.

All that said, I knew Saban needed a QB and honestly would have been happy taking the sloppy seconds of what most draft gurus differed over who was IA and IB. As soon as Smith was taken off the board, I expected Saban to jump on Rodgers and was as surprised he took a familiar part time SEC RB as I was hearing the name "Ted Ginn." What I didn't expect was for us to end up with neither of them and sign a journeyman QB best known for being a tad above mediocre and banging his head against cement walls.

And that's one of the reasons (just one) I'm not too thrilled with the so-called "QB Guru" Gruden either. 3 Draft spot later, at #5, he stood pat with an already journeyman Brian Griese and snapped up Ronnie's fellow "part time SEC RB" Cadillac. As a matter of fact, I can't think of one young QB phenom that Gruden actually did develop.

Rodgers >> Ryan! Anyone who doesn't think Saban did us more of a disservice in 05 than did Parcells drafting Long instead of Ryan is sadly deluding themselves!

no doubt about it. i was shocked we didnt take a quarterback either. i never understood the frerotte love either. the guy absolutely SUCKED. he was terrible before he came to miami, he was terrible while he was here, and he was terrible after he left. for all the hate jay fiedler got, never understood why so many people loved frerotte. ridiculous.

"Tampa Bay: GM Bruce Allen and Coach Jon Gruden. The Glazers are definitely hands-off owners, although they were responsible for the cash-draft pick swap with Al Davis for the right to hire Gruden, who proceeded to bring in Raiders pal Bruce Allen after he won power struggle with Rich McKay. However, it's Allen and not Gruden who now has control over the roster. Kevin Demoff assists Allen in most matters and should be running someone's franchise in a few seasons. Mark Dominik is the top personnel man."

gruden loved c. williams at the senior bowl, but u also see how he gushes about players on monday night football. the guys just positive, enthusiastic, loves football, and loves football players.

tampa bay made the same mistake miami has made for 20 years. they didnt prioritize QB. but we dont know what role gruden played in the decision to pass on rodgers. he didnt have control of personal.

with no QB on this roster EVEN IF gruden had control of the picks, at this point in his career there is NO WAY he passes on a QB. its not even a concern. it simply WILL NOT HAPPEN

The Frerrotte love was about the deep ball. Fans love that stuff right or wrong because its fun to watch. In 2005 the Dolphins, with Gus Frerrotte, led all teams with pass attempts 35 yards or more in the air. It's excting I guess. Sometimes I think fans would rather see that then dinking and dunking to wins.

But I agree, Fiedler was better.

no orton wasnt clearly the better QB. all they had to do was go back and WATCH THE GAMES from last year. they ALREADY KNEW - or should have known what they had in orton - a middle of the road at best starting QB
But the same could be said for Harbaugh and Smith. It worked for Harbaugh but didn't work for Fox. They were both in the same situation and made the same choice, they put the best QB they had on the field.

Tebow stunk during training camp. He was dropped down to #3 and if he hadn't been a 1st round pick the previous year he probably would have been dropped from the team.

no its a huge difference. because harbaugh both drafted kapernick, AND handed over the keys to Smith. he TRUSTED him with a playbook even BEFORE he could be signed. Smith was a free agent and could have gone ANYWHERE. Jim Harbaugh made it CLEAR he wanted him back, and he was his guy. Also the 49ers didnt spend their first pick on a QB, so he has credibility with both players. and both guys believe the best player will play when that time comes.

the situation in denver is different because elway and fox didnt bring in EITHER player. they inherited them. THEN they played around with trading one (and were willing to for a 4th rounder), and the other one they left to twist in the wind, while he dropped on the depth chart from 2nd to 4th, all the while the media is all over it. basically saying the guy sucks -he cant play. they have rookie free agents that werent even drafted that are better QBs etc etc. AND they sit him BEHIND a guy they were just willing to trade for a 4th ROUNDER. they essentially told every single QB on their roster that they BLOW, and they dont want them. not a good way to get started as a new staff, and not a good way to go about establishing leadership, and a winning mindset - which is exactly why they have lost as many as they have. THEN they go out and replace Orton EARLY IN THE SEASON at halftime of a game that he got off to a rough start. that staff has ZERO credibility right now. NONE.. and they have destroyed every QB on their roster

HUGE difference between the 49ers and the Broncos. the 49ers improved their lot with 2 QBs the broncos diminished theirs. all they had to do IS DECIDE. those guys both waffled. they needed to get behind their guy and they didnt get behind either guy

But he was playing.

The Packers were 6-10 the 2008 season with Rodgers and nobody said a word about how we really missed out on the greatest QB of all time. 2009 the Packers were 11-5 but all you heard about was Ryan. Rodgers was viewed as a good QB but maybe not good enough to take the Packers all the way. A top 10 QB, not a top 5 or #1 like he is now.

2010, the Packers win the SuperBowl and Rodgers elevates his game and now everybody is living in revisionist history land, Not drafting Rodgers was a huge mistake blah blah blah... Where were these opinions last season when the Packers started off looking like crap and even lost to the Dolphins.

I'm just poking the Rodgers bandwagon fans with a pointy stick 'cus it's an internet forum and I can.

Ive been saying it since he first became a starter. I dont need tue media or some guys on a fourm to tell me how good Rodgers is. I use my eyes.

I thought he looked good the first time I saw him which was in a Thursday night football game vs Dallas in relief of an inured Brett Favre.

Sanchez 8TDs 5 ints 1171 yards QB rating 80.4 team is 2-3
Ryan 7 TDs 6 Ints 1302 yards QB rating 79.9 team is 2-3

Ryan is a Media Sweetheart who is overrated. He isn't a bad QB, but not even in the same cat as Rodgers, Manning, Brees, Brady, or even the next tier like Phillip Rivers.

Very true...his play last nite is a prime example. Like Sanchez overrated.
