I know he is 36 years and he is currently a unrestricted free agent after the season.Im not sure if the Dolphins can be patient enough on Culpepper's health. This team needs a mobile qb especially with the O-Line we have currently in place.I had my doubts about Culpepper when he got here and i just think that if the chance to get Garcia is there, then i think it would be wise to grab him up.I still think he has two good years in him.I think he is a better choice then Harrington right now.I haven't seen to much of Lemon to devolp an good idea on him so let's see what happens.Maybe Lemon is the future or maybe draft a qb late in the draft and see how it pans out. Here are some numbers to look at while discussing Garcia...including the playoffs this year he finished 12 td passes and only 2 int's in an incredable 244 passes attempted. He also had a qb rating of 95.8 and completed 63 % of his passes. The only losses he was at the helm was aganist the colts who ran threw there defense and the playoff loss to the saints by only 3 points. Not bad so far but another telling stat is the years he was with the niners he averaged 22 td passes and only 11 ints.If you take away his stats with the pathetic Browns and Lions in '04 and '05 respectviely you will see a qb who i think still has plenty left in him and whats most important still has the fire in his belly to prove that he once again can be a starting qb in this league.I put a lot of thought and info into this so please be kind even if you are a Culpepper fan, i greatly appreciate it,thanks guys.

not a bad idea at all. thought of the same thing ealier tonite. some might say he wouldn't fit in our (Cam's) scheme, but look at Drew Brees. maybe we can send culpepper to the raiders with a conditional pick based on performance, use garcia and develop lemon and some new guy. the only problem is we really need continuity on our offense, and starting out with a new qb AGAIN isn't ideal.

Just watched him on Leno....he said, " i have got to test the Free Agency Waters"

i caught the tail end of him on Leno but i just hope that he is given a serious look.Even if he was the backup, i rather defintely have him then Harrington.

If we develop a QB from the draft, Garcia would be a great veteran to help with this development. This beats throwing the QB off the deep end and starting his first year. Not everybody can be Peyton Manning.

I bye all means i dont think we should go after Garcia! He fits the West Coast offense perfect, we wont run that (i dont think).....i think DC will get 100% healthy and get it done, i was just stating wut he said on Leno thats all!

Garcia has ONLY played well in the WCO. He is a system QB, and we don't run that system.

actually u dont kno wut we run CC hasnet decided he said, "I manage games to my players strengths" If we got Garcia then maybe we would do a variation to the West Coast....i doubt it......but u cant go out and say we dont run that system because u dont kno yet.......but i agree 100% he is a system QB!!

The Chargers passed the ball 60% and ran the ball 40%

Are you saying "we" as in Cam Cameron isnt going to run a majority pass offense in 2007?

Let's be patient here all im saying is give Garcia a chance.I sure like to see him here as a phin but in reality it proble won't happen.i also agree that we have no clue what kind of system this offense will have and another thing to add to this is what happens if Cameron wants to get a veteran like Garcia instead of Harrington , i think we would be in agreement that Garcia would be the better of the those two.

West coast is short passes and runing the ball.....The chargers threw down field last year alot actually!

Cameron will run a variation of the Coryell/Zampese offense (Ernie Zampese-Norv Turner-Cam Cameron link). Both have passing games based on timing patterns tied to the QBs feet, but Cameron's system is more vertical than the WCO and the terminology is completely different.

Even if it was a better fit, the Phins would have a hard time convincing Garcia to come here and learn a new offense. He's made enough money and learned his lesson from being outside the WCO (i.e. Cleveland). He wants a WCO where he can compete for a championship. If he can't stay in Philly, he will go to the Vikings, Hawks, Broncos...or outside chance of the Bucs if Gruden can make him believe that they will be competitive this year.

Your basing that on what....games you watched or statistics you read?

Passed downfield a lot means X number of attempts to you?

How many "downfield" passes did San Diego throw?

I'm sure reggie bush's TD against the Bears goes in the books as an 88-yard TD but the pass was what 15-yards?

An excellent and fair question. Personally, I have always taken it for granted that the Air Coryell offenses went downfield more other offenses. When I picture an Air Coryell offense, I picture the 15 - 20 yard hooks and deeper drops.

With that in mind, I looked up the passing yards/attempt on pro-football-reference.com. According to their stats, San Diego averaged 7.32 yards/attempt or 7th highest in the league. Of course, that does not factor in YAC, especially that for extremely long pass plays such as the aforementioned 88-yard Bush TD. LDT had a couple of those so they are definitely a consideration. Still over the course of 400+ pass attempts in a season, there is probably a regression to the mean which reduces the effect of those outliers on the final readout. I'm not the best at stats, though, so if anyone else has a better read on these things...

The other option is to crunch through the stats data on yahoo and remove the YAC for every player/team to figure out the y/a and y/c for the "thrown to" spot, but that's a project for when I am lot more bored and have a lot more vested interest in the answer.
