Before I start I'd just like to say I don't come in here with a this guy sucks, that guy should be benched and this guy's a bust attitude after a loss like many other posters do. I'm just curious though about why no one has criticized Linehan at all. Afterall I've seen posts bashing Saban, Frerotte, Chambers, Booker, McMichael, R. Brown, the O-line, Boston and even Ricky. What about the guy who calls the plays?????? I've heard so much about him being a head coach next season and quite frankly I don't see the hype so far. Here are some observations I've had about Miami's play calling. I've seen positives so keep that in mind but, in true Finheaven fashion following a loss, I'm going to stick with the negatives.

1. Where is the intermediate passing game??? It seems like the majority of our passes are dump offs, WR screens or 60 yard bombs. Gus is struggling with accuracy, why not open up the shorter to intermediate passing a bit.

2. As another posted and myself have pointed out, why does every pass attempt to David Boston have to be a 60 yard go route???? Why not get that big body the ball in space and let him try to make a play???? He did it in preseason.

3. Too many personal changes. Depth is good but come on. I like Sammie Morris and all and believe he is a very hard worker but why is he even seeing the field when Ricky and Ronnie are here??? Also I can remember a time vs the Jets where, for actually quite a few plays, where Diamond and McMichael where lined at as twin WR's. With Chambers, Booker, Welker, Boston and Gilmore that seems like a complete waste of downs.

4. Pass happy. We were running on Buffalo at will and Ronnie had 17 attempts. Where are the carries???

5. We don't use the middle enough. There have been plays to be made there but we are not exploiting it.

I do realize that whenever we have a chance to make something happen in the passing game it seems like either an errant pass or a drop takes care of that. I just think the play calling could help with confidence.

I will agree that in the last 2 weeks, the offensive play calling has been suspect...

We need to bring some balance to this offense. last year we ran too much. The past 2 games, we have passed too much... hopefully we start to balance the offense out soon...

Nasty

1. Linehan normally takes what the defenses gives him. And also, dump offs may just be a result of checking downfield and no one being open.

2. Theres probably a story not being told here. Thats what im thinking. coaches dislike him, bad attitude, or hes just not very good. its all a possibility.

3. That's linehan's style. He used a running back by commitee style offense the whole time in minny. He used three backs all the time. no matter how good one was playing.

4. Thats how he calls the game. And thats probably a good reason why those 17 carries were all very successful runs.

5. we've been playing some down right nasty linebackers so far this season. i think that will change soon. (to name a few, the broncos LB's in general, derrick brooks, shelton quarles, london flethcer, jon vilma, Dan morgan, etc)

Linehan is overated. We have a great running back tandem and we hardly run the ball. I know we have penalties, but there is no flow or rythm to the offense. I think R&R could have beeen used together in a lot better fashion.

The knock on linehan was his playcalling is all over the place and has no rythm, I now tend to agree. He also must realize that understanding the offense is different than executing, Frerotte is failing at this point.

I would love to see more pases over the middle. Although we've had how many reverses this yeay?.. and actually ran them somehwat well.

im not sold on linehan at all. its pretty clear to me that the fins are not playing to their strengths and are instead relying on their weakness.

it may work out in the end. maybe gus finally figures out the deep ball after the 1000th time.

Its hard to run when its always 1st and15 or 1st and 20. Lets judge the Dolphins after 8-10 games, not just 5. Be patient.

Linehan doesn't have the personnel he needs to run his offense. He's gone from having a top-3 QB and line to having a bottom-5 QB and a bottom-ONE line (before Houck). Remember Gary Stevens? Yeah, same thing. And the penalties haven't helped any either. 1st and 20 and 3rd and 15 aren't the easiest plays to call.

The patience of fans is absolutely amazing. The team is 2-3, half way towards last seasons win total, and Saban is being questioned, Linehan is being questioned ,it has been 5 games c'mon. The Dolphins are not as talented as many fans think, it's easy to blame the coaches, but the players just aren't in Miami to make plays. Really the team has an average Qb, an average WR core, a rookie RB, and a pretty good tight end, and the team has been average, who would've thought?

I wonder what the over/under is on when a "SABAN IS A BUST" thread will appear? :shakeno: So far he has only been questioned.

Right, it's surprising because in prediction threads most people stated the team would be 8-8 or so. Belicheck went 5-11 in his first season in New England I believe, and I bet many people were calling for his head, and now because he has the players to play his scheme he is one of the best coaches ever. If Saban goes 8-8 would it be a bad season? Give the coaches time, the team will be better at the end of the year as players get more accustomed to the schemes, and as the coaches get more accustomed to the players.

I agree with you, too many people had unreal expectations for this season well need a couple of good drafts free agent signing periods and time for this team to develope some chemistry.

I think the playcalling is just fine we just need time for the players to adjust to a new system and the WR's need to get on the same page with Ferotte or the other way around because a lot of plays are messed up by a horrible throw or a drop.

Maybe it has more to do with the qb's decision making thab play calling

gus has the worst awareness I have seen in a while (think akili smith here)
