Nolan out Bell gone,Langford goneWill Allen gone and 3-4 gone what is the chance we are better than last year on D? it also appears we will draft heavy on the O side of the ball and will roll the dice with what we have as of now.will we be better than 2011 or worse:err:

They may miss Nolan the most of all. I like the new guy Marshall on nickle and dime stuff and Bell may resign. Just get us a pass rushing DE in the draft and I think using more 4 - 3 is no problem.

the 3-4 isn't gone and the 4-3 alignments aren't new. they ran both last year

I think the retirement of JT will have a bigger effect than Allen's departure. Where will we get those 10 sacks?
We won't even miss Langford.
Hopefully Bell will resign, otherwise we will be drafting a rookie to replace him. The other journeyman players we have will hold the SS position until the rookie is ready.
Nolan was a figure head last year. His heart wasn't into the game. He wanted out. When Bowles took over the play calling the defense responded and played much closer to potential. For that reason, Nolan's departure is a good thing. Bowles departure was the big loss IMHO.
I think Coyle will give everything he has to make this defense very good. Hopefully he will watch the tapes from last year to help get a feel for when to blitz and stay home. I will not say I have confidence in him yet, but I will give him the benefit of doubt until we start getting shreaded.

We should probably lend alittle help too the defence in the draft, everyone has been so involved with QB and WR. Possible FA out there we could get reasonably?

i think JT only had 6 1/2 sacks and that will be missed but Olrick or Misi could play DE in a pinch and I think our first or second pick will be pass rusher.

They also aquired Westerman from the Jets. I don't think he is more than a solid backup or spot player though.

Defense, another reason I am still going to whine and complain about the Marshall trade! The Dolphins could use him for at least another year. Besides the QB they need to pick up another pass rusher. It's pretty clear with Marshall you go pass rusher at 8 if you think you can get a QB later. Now I don't know becuase Ireland poked another hole in the sinking ship.

JT will be missed. I was suprised that he was able to contribute especially later in the season. He even showed some flashes of his possible HOF career a few times.

Right now on D we need a situational pass rusher and a nickel CB. We can live with everything else this season. This draft needs to be offense heavy with our new coach so he can get guys for his system.

Amen Kdawg! That D has been "choking" quite a bit under Nolan's watch. He was a good coach but I thought it was time for a new leader. For a D that was so solid, I could never figure out why and how they choke when the pressure's on.

how on earth did this D choke .im not sure if your talking about the first 8 games or the last

Pass rush is the biggest need on defense, and luckily BPA at 8 will likely be pass rush (just don't see Blackmon falling that far). I think the rest of the draft will be offense. Now if we can somehow trade back...

In 2011, these are games that the D choked on...

Cleveland- need I say more?
Denver- ditto
NYG- second half they flew back to miami
Dallas- had leads (off of the top of my head they held leads twice and blew both
Buffalo (game 2)- damn near made it real scary at the end
N.E.- got off to a lead and got comfortable. The made slight adjustments after halftime and we didnt

*whenever the were on primetime games, the D never came up with big games.

2010
NYJ (night game)- they made mistakes glore! (ie Jason Allen game)
oh and all Dec games that season. Thats off the top of my head.

Ill throw out 2010 cause the team as a whole bottomed out. but 2011, its was what it was!

The Dolphins defense has seemingly choked every year from 2002 to now, with the exception of 2008. It is almost in their DNA to "get tight" when the game is on the line. That is one thing I'll give Joey Porter and that 2008 season (ironically it is the only season we made the playoffs during that span). He had alot of sacks that year, but the great thing about those sacks were that many of them came at critical times and they helped the Fins win games (Buffalo, Oakland and San Fran come to mind instantly from that season).

We need another pass rusher and we need a nickel CB who can contain that slot WR . . . because the slot WR, 3rd down back and TE have been the achilles heel of this defense for much too long.
