What an article on Gholston

If Ireland and Parcells see Ware or Merriman in him - and he plays that Leo spot that would make you think they will, especially outside in a 3-4 - then he will get strong consideration. One rumour doing the rounds is that Miami are down to 4 guys; Chris Long, Matt Ryan, Sedrick ellis and Gholston.

I think LB is a huge priority for us and I'm glad Gholston is still in the mix. He is my overall favorite as far as a need for our team, but I just wasn't ready to say he is worth the #1 pick. I was waiting to see how well he does at the combine....so far, so good :).

I liked this part of the article the most.
What stands out about Gholston's performance in that game is that he learned so much from playing Michigan a season earlier. In that 2006 meeting, Long was able to control Gholston simply because he was more skilled. But Gholston scoured tape before their 2007 game in order to find weaknesses he could exploit in Long's technique and he clearly discovered some advantages.

That is what great players do -- they adjust to whatever challenges they confront.

So it's fair to think that Gholston will find prosperity in the league based on his physical abilities and his rapid rise to stardom. Even during his brief time with the media at the NFL scouting combine, Gholston gave the impression that he's still a quiet, humble kid who's looking to develop as best he can. That also might be the best thing about the guy. He's almost guaranteed to be a top-10 pick and he still has no idea how good he can become.

If Gholston puts in this kind of film study in the NFL, he will be talked about in the same breath as Merriman and Ware.

1. I am a jake long fan. the fact that long was able to control gholston a year earlier, and gholston did better against long last year, shows me they are both good. A lot of the argument against long, was the osu game last year. to me, they have done well against each other. Right now I still want jake at #1.

2. I would love to have gholston. I would take gholston over long in a heartbeat.
can't wait to see this dude workout today.

sedrick ellis being in the rumor mill, is interesting to me as well. this kid looked great in the senior bowl, which is about the only time I have seen him. I need to get more film on the guy.

Well Gholston just TORE IT UP at the combine.

Him and Long both did good. Gholston ran better and also looked good in the coverage drills.

Not discounting your statement that Jake Long was able to control Gholston 2 years ago, but just to give Gholston support he didn't start playing football until his sophomore year in high school. He didn't start playing defense until his freshman year at Ohio State. There was a huge learning curve for him that he was able to translate into a GREAT junior year.

Slightly better in the 40: So what. Let's look at the far more useful drills:

3 cone drill:
Gholston, Vernon 7.12
Long, Chris 7.02

20-yard shuttle:

Gholston, Vernon 4.40
Long, Chris 4.21

Back to back Buckeyes??? Sounds good to me, just dont expect them to perform well in the Super Bowl(S)

I think Long is still the pick.

Thanks 60611 what site did you use?

Some Rams site. I was going off Gholston's first broad jump, it looks like after his second he jumped an inch farther than Long in the broad, though both jumped something like a foot farther than Gaines Adams last year.

I don't get it you argue gholston was slightly better in the 40, than support that same argument with slightly better times in those above two drills.

and to cheyennefan.... your right and I agree, this makes gholston even more intriguing. He hasn't been playing that long, and will only get better.
