I'm not liking the cost/performance of our backup QB. I think we should bring back Devlin (once the Browns cut him, as they surely will). He knows the system, is accurate, is cheap. Hardly a downgrade from Moore. What say you?

(Title should be "thoughts on" obviously. Sorry for the typo)

Too much is being made about Matt Moore this preseason. He's a solid backup.

Not understanding the cost/performance problem either . . . . He has a base salary of $1 million this year. That is NOTHING for a quality backup. You've already given him the signing bonus . . . . he ain't getting cut . . . . definitely not for Pat ****ing Devlin.

I like Moore. He's battle tested. He can win 2/3s of the games Tannehill can. So if Tannehill were hurt in the middle of the season in theory, we could stay relevant.

um, my thoughts are, if tannehill is injured, might as well watch more porn.

Other teams have just signed Vick and Rex Grossman to be no.2 .. Moore is just fine.

Anyway, if Tannehill goes down it is time to start looking at draft prospects

I would cut Moore and MBT, keep Freeman as a cheap rehab project for Lazor/Taylor and sign a camp cut as temp backup.

Scott Tolzien was a 7th rounder or UFDA, is on a €1.2m cap hit in 2015 and is Rodgers backup. I liked Tolzien coming out (and got laughed at!), but the point is he's a cheap panic button for a top QB that doesn't get injured much and is never getting replaced as starter.

We're paying Matt Moore more than double that in 2015 to get the same cover but who performs less successfully than some Mr. Irrelevant can.

That's why you cut underachieving, comfort-zone-loving, offensive-system-failing goofball Matt Moore.

I don't really think about the back up...RT goes down...time to netfilx. I hear good things about The Fall

i disagree with many in this thread so far.

i think his skill set was much more suited for the offense sherman was running than lazor. i'm not saying he's priority 1, but we should cut the ties with him for the sake of mutual betterment. there are a few teams towards the bottom right now that he could go in and compete for a starting job. too much reliance on the passing game, short precise throws, and threat with the read option in our offense. it's just not suited for him. additionally i think tanne takes enough hits to where our backup qb does matter. we are, and have been riding a very thin line on whether we're in the playoffs or outside looking in. if tanne gets knocked out for a quarter and he has to come in, i won't feel comfortable. we make a big huff about our kicker costing us games, that should be enough to demonstrate we don't have games to spare...no one does in this league.

Moore has looked ordinary in the two preseason games to date but he is better than that. He is our insurance and if required he will be fine.
The other big things that Matt Moore brings are:
a) He fully understands Lazor's system. He knows all the receivers - their strengths and their weaknesses.
b) He works well with Ryan Tannehill and has been part of his development.
c) He has the experience of 2011 in being called up when needed as a backup and did extremely well.
d) He has earned the confidence of Philbin, Lazor and Zach Taylor, otherwise he would have been gone a long time ago.

Cut MBT and is Freeman cut yet? If not, cut him. Moore is plenty fine as a backup and has proven his ability to win games. Don't have a knee jerk reaction to a couple of preseason games. These are meaningless and his role out there is to get the ball to players they coaching staff is evaluating.

matt moores a terrible fit for this offense...

Yet the team resigned him to a comtract that pretty much makes him a guarantee as the backup this year.

Miami should of went looking for a backup this offseason, but didnt, maybe it will happen next offseason, however you dont cut him with no real viable option in sight when you have already guaranteed him 1.6 million and you only save on the base 1 million for the season.

Its dumb to even think about.
