This concerns me from the story on the Finheaven home page.
..
If the reports of Smith getting $24 million in guaranteed money are accurate, the Dolphins will likely have to offer in the area of $22 million in guarantees for Brown. Smith's total guarantee was a 20 percent improvement on what Eli Manning, the No. 1 overall pick in 2004, received from the New York Giants.
...
As noted on the message board, a 20% increase is somewhat alarming, considering the salary cap only rose about 5.6%.
It pisses me off that these teams are letting Rookies eat up all that cap space without playing a down.

I'm starting to get to the point where I want to say "F@ck you Ronnie", you are competing against Ricky "F@cking" Williams not some ham-n-egger, carreer second stringer, dude gained 1800+ yards just a couple years ago behind a very poor O-Line. Sure, Ricky will miss the first 4 games, but the O-Line will likely still be developing during that period and I think no matter who starts the first part of the season at RB, its not going to matter all that much...

Don't get me wrong, I was very upset with Ricky, especially at first, but honestly if he had stayed he would have probably had another 250 plus carries and might not have been able-bodied enough to even play this year. I think he said that if he hadn't taken the year off he doesn't think he would be here today. And lets face it folks, whatever he said at the time, the REAL dope that killed Ricky's motivation last year was named Dave Wandstedt.

The point is that Brown should be in camp getting his a$$ acclimated to the system now. If he want's to hold out for more money? Fine, he just need tell everyone that he won't play a regular season down until the contract is done, we have a new Line Coach, and New Offensive Coordinator and Ronnie, you are a rookie, get your a$$ to camp.

Can you post-date this to 10 days from now, then I could get fully behind the urgency. :)

I think the pay of ALL professional athletes is absurd, BUT if we all continue to go to games and help support their salaries.... it will keep happening.

What Can't Brown Do For You?!
People need to stop complaining about Ronnie not being in camp. He was the second overall pick and first runningback (in a draft extremely deep in rbs) for a reason. He can obviously run, he's a great pass blocker, and an excellent receiver stop complaining because once Ricky leaves to marry Lenny you'll all be on his d*ck.

If he is not at camp next week then I will start to get upset myself (not that my opinion means anything). Even if they offered the guy 5 mil. Thats more money than I may ever see and he hasn't even reported to work yet....

The thing is everyone on this board is ripping into brown now. I am not happy about his cap or what he wants but lets face it, what woudl you do? Its anyones job to get as much money as possible. Is he jsut going to accept less money because the fans want him too? I wouldnt. It just pisses me off that this is now the norm. So I wouldnt go blaming Ronnie for that.

On a side note this could turn into a funny Rivers, Brees situation. If Ricky really does run like he used to I think it woudl be hard to justify starting Brown over him. Then we have a guy making 8 million on the bench with Ricky being untradeable because no one will touch him.

And why is that? Why is their pay absurd? I don't think some athletes get paid enough. Someone is paying them....how much does the owner get paid?
How much risk is he taking sitting in comfort yucking it up with his billionaire friends and pointing at their star player yelling "thats my boy!!".

Ronnie shouldn't be in no hurry. His eagerness to get into camp should match the speed of Miami giving him a fair contract for a 2nd round pick.

I have to be honest here the dolphins need to offer him what they want to pay him not what he wants it said that smiths contract was a 20% jump! Screw that offer him the same contract #2 got last year with the 5 % increase the cap got and tell him this or nothing!
you see with us having Ricky we have the leverage in this negotiation as we are not desperate for browns services at the moment so we can have brown sit back and holdout1 I will say this once, 22 million guarenteed is to much for any back especially one who split carries in college and hasnt taken a nfl snap!

On a side note: Isnt it sad we balked at ricky for wanting a better contract then he was getting which didnt pay even a third fo what brown is going to get and this guy led the leauge in rushing? I mean you have to think part of the reason he left was he wanted to be paid better and pornstache just said we aint giving you anything!

Why are you blaming Ronnie? It isn't his fault.

I agree he should go to camp but you can't blame him for wanting to get paid. What would you do?

Welcome to the business we know as the NFL. If there was no salary cap like baseball. no one would be saying a thing

If there was no salary cap like baseball the situation would even be worse and on the contrary many more people would be expressing their disgust.

Point is that the system is VERY flawed the way they pay rookies based on draft positions. I don't know how anyone could disagree with that. You've got guys that have proven zero about how they will pan out as a professional athelete getting millions guaranteed to them. Rediculous actually. It is what it is however and I don't see it changing.

Wow, there is some serious social class bitterness coming out!

Many of these billionaires "yucking it up" who you seem to think take no risks to be where they are is laughable. You have any idea what it takes to reach the level they have attained in business? Not a clue I'm sure. You have no idea about risk my friend.
