"We are what we repeatedly do."
~ Aristotle

Ronnie Brown is quietly (and quickly) becoming one of my favorite players. His strong family-oriented character becomes apparent when listening to him in interviews. He comes from the small town of Rome, Georgia. His family did not have much money while growing up. Ronnie even has an extended family, with whom he is very close, albeit, a white one. A little unheard of in the deep south back in his day. Just by listening to his interviews, it is obvious this young man is genuine and is of good moral character. Nick Saban, in my opinion, hit a home run with this pick.

Though Ronnie shared the load in carries last season with Ricky Williams, it was quite apparent early in the year that this player may end up to become something special. In only his third game against the Carolina Panthers, he rushed for 132 yards and scored his first TD of the year, and averaged a whopping 5.7 ypc on only 23 carries! Ronnie finished second only to Cadillac Williams in rushing yards amongst rookies. He also became the first running back in Dolphins history to rush for over 100 yards in a game as a rookie. But all of this most of us already know.

You are probably wondering why Aristotle is quoted at the top of this analysis? I have come across these statistics on Ronnie Brown's 2005 rookie campaign and noticed something: Ronnie gets stronger as the game winds down. Some neighsayers will point out that he has not carried the load at either Auburn or Miami as of yet. I say "GOOD!" That's less stress on his body. They think he will succumb to the sophomore slump. Here's what I think: We have yet to see what Ronnie Brown has to offer. The stats, though from just one season, tell the story.

So, what can we expect from Ronnie Brown in 2006? Barring anything detrimental (I won't say it), I expect him to open the eyes of NFL fans and players. Some analysts are already mentioning him as a top-10 back, but most have not even taken off their biased shades. They will find out soon enough how special this player is. He is an extrememly likeable person. He will soon become a well-liked football player.

*If you check out his second half stats, he obviously not only gets stronger in the running game, but in also the receiving. One glaring note: his fourth quarter fumbles. When he was at Auburn, he did not lose a fumble. In his rookie season, he lost 4 of 4. Hopefully, this was just the rookie jitters.

Good move, I think that if the line jells and DC plays well, that 1200 will be low.

Nice post, those stats say it pretty well, Ronnie does seem to get better late in the game. His YPC certainly does go up in the second half, so that bodes well for him being the power back we all believe he is. And that also belies the notion he can't carry the load.

I am totally excited to see Ronnie carry the load this season, may be the bright spot of our season. (Even better than DC?)

Over 1200 yards rushing and healthy for the playoffs. Thats all anybody should expect from a starting RB in the league. You know he really is an excellent receiver, we should capitalize on that skill more.

Ronnie Brown is going to be the most complete back in the game imo! Not only will he run you over you he can also run by you, he is a awsome blocker and has hands like a wr. He has all the tools there is somthing very special in this kid! Not to mention he now has a beast of fb to run behind!!!! Go Dolphins!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice job on digging up those stats! Ronnie has the potential to be in the HOF. I think he's ready to carry the load this year. It's gonna be fun watching him play.

One word: CONSISTENCY. He showed it in college and I feel he will do in the pros. I say year in and year out 1,300-1,500 yards on the ground and another 300 - 500 catching the rock and around a dozen TDs per year.

I also appreciate humble backgrounds and someone who is family oriented. He just seems like a good guy who will give you effort and 100%.

We can expect a whole lot of yards and a whole lot of TD's. I can't wait to see him level that first defender that faces him. He hits hard man!

In that latter part of the year, his numbers dropped quite a bit in part because of Miami's willingness to handoff to Williams more. But who could blame the staff? Williams was playing his tail off. Ronnie also had a little "tweak" injury later in the year, in which he was out for at least a game, so that contributed to his decline in numbers. From what I gather, Ronnie has always been a hard worker, and has worked hard this offseason to get into football shape. Although, that's expected, players are not required to work out in the offseason. See: Manny Wright.

What will be exciting to see is how he handles playing first chair. He's always played second fiddle, except in the first part of last season, but even then, he really did not get the chance to showcase himself. Saban, IMO, did the right thing by slowly introducing Ronnie to the NFL. This will be the 1st year that Ronnie will be "the man" since his time in high school. My main concerns are his fumbles (Was last year a fluke?) and the wear and tear on his body through the duration of the season (Can he hold up?). Also, if we remember from last year, he held out for a good time in training camp. IMO, that had a definite impact on his ability to get into NFL football shape. Those are my only two worries.
