The team looked pretty good in the first half of last year. Then, Albert went down with the OL and O. The same was true with the D, and then everything went downhill very quickly. We had the same coaches in both halves as well as this year. So, what changed?

We still have Albert out with the OL looking the same as the second half.

I like Tannehill but, see no improvement, and Miller's production has gotten worse. Our receivers are better even without Parker and Stills not yet chiming in.

Our DL was getting killed on the run second half, and it's the same.

The LB's are the same, good outside with nothing in the middle. Safety has suffered with Delmas going down (no one's fault), and Finnegen's replacement has been horrible.

What did our FO do to improve?

Signed Suh, improved our receivers, and ...........................?

we had Albert at the beginning of last season. hence the better record. we also had Delmas for about 12 games. Aikens is doing a horrible job. and I think the players are giving up on Philbin. he should have been fired last year.

and Cortland Finnagin was certainly better than Brice McCain.

Nothing changed. That's the problem on offense. Exact same scheme, exact same plays - easy for defenses to predict and defend. So we're stagnant. Imbalance is killing us there also.

On defense everything is too simple and easy to read, gameplan against. At every level we're ineffective and it shows on how easy it is to defend us and attack us, despite the talent on both sides of the ball.

Also the players just aren't executing a lot of the time. The problem is everywhere.. Tough to solve.

Not much has changed. I thought we upgraded at wr, slightly at RG, and DT.
I am actually surprised the team has gotten worse. The linebackers are weak, but they were last year. The O line is bad, but they were last year. How did we get worse?

There is not much to lose. If the coaching staff has any intention of saving jobs they should be playing with nothing to lose. Play the best players, don't tell us about technique or practice habits. Phillips and Parker should be playing as much as possible, and Turner should be given a shot. Run the damn ball, take some shots down field. Press with the corners and let them sink or swim, let the qb make changes at LOS.. There is nothing to lose

coaching Is the biggest difference actually. they haven't adjusted anything and in the NFL if you don't adjust, people figure you out pretty quickly

The defense was bad all last year. Even when it was ranked fairly high early in the season, we all knew it was just smoke and mirrors. Teams started exploiting weaknesses, a few players go hurt, and it went down from there.

The problem is that, even though some things changed from last year, the things that needed to change didn't:
-Everyone knew we had a terrible O-line, and aside from a rookie addition, it wasn't addressed.
-Everyone knew we had a terrible LB core and soft secondary, but aside from moving dead weight and getting a lineman to indirectly help, we got worse.
-Everyone knew that the DC was horrible, but instead of kicking his ass to the street, he was retained and told to make his strategies easier for other teams to scheme.

We made two significant changes this offseason: Upgraded the WR core and the D-line. However, neither of those were terrible last year, so even though there was upgrades, they weren't as game changing as they should be.

The failure was from the head coach and the front office for not addressing the most glaring needs, and keeping the problems that killed us last year.

IMO - the QB and WR roles are very solid. If given better circumstances, I still believe they could be among the best in the league. However, two things are destroying our passing game:
1) No protection - Our Oline is a NY subway turnstile. This keeps the QB from being able to progress through reads, prevents him from getting set thereby affecting his accuracy, and makes the passing game rely on short dumps. It also kills the running game, which in turn hampers the passing game
2) Defense not making any stops - because our Defense is full of Pop Warner bench warmers, the other team is moving the ball up and down the field at will. This puts pressure on the offense to have to match pass. That makes us very one dimensional, having to make big plays to keep up. However, see #1...that type of production isn't possible due to the Oline.

So, by remaining steadfast on the areas we should have changed, we have neutered the areas where we did make improvements.

That's genius front office work, right there.

I do get why many are pointing to coaching, and it makes some sense. I'm just looking deeper on the problems.

I have posted many a time since the season ended, along with others here, that we desperately needed a second CB and a 2nd LT. I do not know how the FO, with $10M left to spend, did not see the same.

The "Oh Geese" are a problem but, IMO not close to the other two. MLB is a problem but, there was nothing available. A third TE is/was a problem but, nothing was available.

I know it's easy to point the blame at Philbin but, not alone. The FO could have easily helped those two positions.

Also, players are far from blameless. As mentioned, if they need inspiration to block and tackle, look for another job.

Nothing changed. Still no FS, RCB, still no EDGE, same QB, No Rnning game, bad in scoring, bad in moving the ball. Thanks Tbum!

OK buddy. All two opportunities which came in the first game. :woot:

Keep pounding sand in trying to support this defense.

The defense sucks, How am I supporting them. They have only caused 2 turnovers in 3 games and thus no points off turnovers. Last year at this point we had 24 points off turnovers and punt blocks. That is just about the 8 points per game we are missing this year. Just pointing out that Lazor's **** was because of the team and not because of Lazor.

Discuss the original post and quit worrying about me and protecting your feeble offense.

Therein lies the problem with all of Fins1971's posts.

This is our team. The defense, the offense, and special teams. Only a pitiful few pit one unit against the other.

Also reading comprehension tells one that if you are truly not taking a one-sided stance here, then your first sentence should be written, "We are not getting turnovers or converting them into points like last year." Except it is not, because you carry an agenda.
