What could have been...dif take on Ogun trade

I just read Mike McKenzie is ending his hold out with the Packers. McKenzie has Drew Rosenhaus as his agent. Makes me wonder if the same would have happened with Ogun if he were still on the team. I know most people laud the trade as good for Miami but if you really think about it the trade only is good in light of Ricky's retirement and Boston's injury. If and I know its a BIG IF...ricky never quit and boston never got hurt then Im pretty sure everyone would be calling RS a moron for trading Ogun for Booker and Gordon.

What Im wondering is if Rick/Boston situation never happened. Would RS have traded Ogun anyway? Maybe trying to pick up a top tier Olineman? or would he have just taken some pics? or would he have just sat on the situation and allowed Ogun to end his hold out like McKenzie.

So my ultimate point...whether the Ogun trade is good or not remains to be seen but it will always have an asterik next to it because the trade was made in the context of dire need. If those needs did not exist then I think the trade is a bonehead maneuver.

That is just it, if we still had Ricky and Boston, I dont think we would have traded him. I believe it was because of those 2 factors that we ended up making the trade. It was a cause/effect relationship.

That is the ONLY reason you TRADE a TOP 5 DE.....for a TOP 20 WR & a I hope he can take the 30 dives a game pounding RB.

Otherwise he would still be a Phin hold out or new contract. The Phins were in a tight spot with Ricky & Boston. It did not help with OGUN holding out. BUt they got what THEY thought they could get for him. Anytime you do that you get burned in the long run.

It just kills me to hear that the DEFENSE has all the $$$$ (If there was a big time player available like C.C. the Phins would have signed him. But that was not the case!). Hell in a couple more years the Defense will be begging for another stud. The best thing going for the Defense is the DB's (Youth wise). And Marty Booker has a larger Salary Cap Hit than OGUN.

I do not think that Marty Booker & Gordon can save the Offense. But I do think that if Miami still had OGUN they would be SOLID at every poistion. Much like the Ravens when they won it all(Yeah they had a great running game). OGUN does more for the Defense than Booker & Gordon does for the Offense. OGUN takes pressure off of the BEST DE in the LEAGUE (JT). That alone opens things up for Bowens to keep OL off Zach so he can make the plays that turn games around. With OGUN & JT giving pressure at the ends the DB's can make the BIG plays from the early & error throws!
 
Ogun needed to be traded. His holdout wasn't close to ending and he isn't worth the money he wanted. Sure he may have decided to come back a couple of games in but this organization couldn't take anymore uncertainty. For all we knew he was planning on sitting out most of the season so I applaud the trade. Once Gordon gets settled in I think a lot more people will appluad the trade. Not to mention we got a great receiver in Booker. The offense needed some new talent much more than defense.
 
i dont think ogun does more for the D than booker/gordon will do for the O... gordon will be a major force and booker even if he doesn't get his catches takes a lot of pressure off chambers... id much rather have jwill in there with booker/gordon than having ogun without them...

But it alludeded to the fact that RS actually would've liked to keep AO, we certainly could've cap wise, however he did not want to let Wanny hang out to dry with the current situation on offense with no RB or WR.

So had RW been here but Boston gone, I'd say AO would be here. Had DB been here but no RW, then AO would still be here, however you take away both players, then you have a big hole on the offensive side of the ball.

Let's just hope for RS sake that Lamar Gordon is a better version of Lamar Smith and that Booker will live up to his 2002-2003 stats and become that viable threat we need opposite CC, and Let's hope that AJ find his groove and get's in sync with the wr's otherwise both RS and DW will be out the door.

Booker & Gordon is nice to have do not get me wrong. But they are still behind the SAME OL. I would rather had an upgraded G or C than Booker. C.C. & Randy still can get the job done. But Gordon and others will struggle behind Miami's OL.

OGUN just made the Miami Defense COMPLETE at every position. That makes BIG PLAYS. That gives an average Offense GOOD FIELD POSITION that the NEED to score!

well we had already made a hell of a lot of changes on the OL to do anything else there... they just need time...

but i really feel the drop from ogun to jwill isn't that great, ogun def benefitted from being opposite jt and wont do as well in chicago... dont ge tme wrong i loved wally... but i just feel that we'll be just fine without him when bowens is back we'll be straight...

Last time I checked this was a dolphin message board, which means that anybody can start a dolphin related thread, even if you dont think it's worthy. You may be right, Ogun is a Bear, But this thread easily can go into the physche (sp) of RS on his descion making.

What same O-line ? We have four new starters and after watching the the Titans game over and over, this line has potential and may just take them some time to gel.

I guess time will tell. If OGUN gets more sacks than JT.....Then what? If JT does not get more than 10 Sacks then what?.....If Bowens only gets 3 Sacks then what?

You get my point. I hate the fact the the Defense is not as strong now overall. JT will see DOUBLE all season. That will hurt both Zach & DB's. It all starts with JT and sometimes ends with JT (SACK & FUMBLE :cooldude: ). JT and OGUN just made the PHINS Defense SICK! JT & Bowens does not do the same in my eyes. I hope that JT leads the NFL in sacks and Miami's D finishes in the TOP 3.
 
true, only time will tell... we got some decent pressure on a GREAT oline of tennesee and jwill got a sack and a forced fumble in replacing ogun? not too bad...

and bowens im talking about is tim in the DT spot to stop the run, once hes there we'll be better against the run, and our pass rush will sitll be fine...

With 4 most like 5 new starters. you can make the case that player for player this o-line is better than last year's oline.

(2nd yr)Wade Smith/(healthy)Damian Mchintosh > rookie WS
Jeno James > Jamie Nails
Seth > Ruddy
Whitley (for now, much more upside) = Perry
St. Clair (so far) = Todd Wade

This problem with this line is not physical ability, it's cohesion.
