What could we get for Zach Thomas?

How about 114 tackles in 9 games.

I would hate to see Zach or JT go but they are getting older and more injury prone and carry hefty cap monies. I hope they both finish thier careers here but it won't surprise me if they don't. I think not trading Dan when JJ took over hurt both Dan and JJ in the long run. Dan was not a play action, 20 passes a game kind of QB. He was a gunslinger who needed to be the offensive focal point. JJ needed a game manager who was a yes man and would do it JJ's way no matter what. That being said I think JT is a great fit for our defensive system. Zach is making a pile of Tackles but his coverage skills are not the greatest. I will always have respect and admiration for Zach and JT no matter what team they are on. They will always be Dolphins to me. If it helps our team we have to do what we have to do. That is the ugly truth for every player, someday your years of service take thier toll. And once the decline starts your value to your team or any other team also starts to decline and GM's know this.

I question the relevancy of these threads. If it is that much of a concern why not ask what picks we would get if we traded the whole damn team away. This is not fantasy football this is reality football.

I would understand the need to answer these kinds of questions if the player being mentioned were underachievers. I consider a mixture of veterans and young players right for this team. Reason:- The young players will learn on the job from a talanted, smart and experienced player ala Chrowder. Just imagine Chrowder learning the ins and outs of being a LB from some underachieving linebacker.

Just imagine having three rookie LB's learning on the job, you probably be asking what FA we could get for all three rookie LB, so just chill and lets get some young guys in here to learn from these vets we have so long relied on before they are gone for good.:shakeno:

I don't know how much value Zach would have, and if it would be worth trading him. Zach is the heart of the defense and is getting older, but I don't think it is time to trade him or think about losing him yet. I would think the best thing to do in the situation is keep him and use a 4th-5th rd pick on a young ILB, for him to groom and teach. It would be awkward to see him in a different uniform, but the business of the NFL makes it very possible.

It would make me sad to see Zach in another uniform, like it did Bryan Cox :)

Whow ill be the on the field coach if you trade all the vets away? Who will have the experience to react to the offense and the audibles? Bad thread, and bad poll!:fire:

Players come and go. Someone would step up.

OK Yeah just like that. You seem to like waiting around for good things to happen.

You have any idea who will step up?

Have you ever thought of the process that goes into player evaluation, deciding what players to draft, Free agency, the cap situation etc, etc, and then reality sets in that the player is a bust. And your thoughts is that someone will step up.

No one knew before now that reggie howard would be a bust! Certainly not you, you probably figured he would step up.

Well I for sure won't gamble a sure for unsure, not when there is nothing to fall back onto.

Dude, Zach will be 33 next season. If the coaching staff has an opportunity to replace with a good young player, then I am all for it.

Just a 3rd rounder IMO. He's too old & too expensive for anyone to really want.

Let's see what the general consensus is...

Stays a Dolphin and always a Dolphin. We lose him, we lose leadership, skills, and the best linebacker ever to wear a Miami uniform. Ever since Marino retired, Zach became the face of the franchise. So what if we need to get younger, we still have Crowder and Pope learning from the best. We can draft LBs and still keep Thomas. Does anyone think we should've traded Marino? Say yes and I'll bet you're a Patriots, Jets, or Bills fan. Thomas is the kind of guy who if you ask him to take a paycut and promise that this cut will improve the team, he'll do it. He's team-first.

Trading him is worse than the Lakers trading Shaq. Just ask any Laker fan if that trade was a good one and they'll say no.

A 5th rd would about right.

It ain't personal, it's business.

you would probubly get..... a losing season.

but if you did want to go that way, you could probubly get a 2nd, but more likly a 3rd.
hes an awsome LB, but he is not young. he may only play 2 more years.

If you trade Thomas who in the heck is going to teach, and be a role model for the kids coming through the ranks?

That's what coaches are for, Zach didn't learn on his own.:D
